Staying on Wabedo Lake / Lakes in the area?

My wife and I are headed to Wabedo Lake the third week in June. We will be there for a week. It is our first trip to your great state. I am looking for suggestions on lakes to fish. We enjoy catching all species. It would be great to get the MN grand slam.

I am also looking for things to do in the area. Sightseeing or hikes. Something other than fishing for the wife.

    Thanks,

I had a year round home up there for 10-years that we used as a cabin . First go to Minnesota lake finder and you can get all kind of stat's for it and other area lakes. I mainly fished Stony lake, Ten Mile lake and Leech lake, depending on wind conditions. Stony had a good population of Smallies and green fish. If you have a rain out day take a road trip up to Walker Minnesota ( about 40 minutes from your resort. Reeds sporting goods has a great store and is well stocked for all species. Plus it has a Dairy Queen and some other good restaurants.

Lots of great fishing in that immediate area! It's got it all.

What do you consider the Mn grand slam?

Good morning! You will be up there at a perfect time. If you are mostly trying for bass, I would suggest sticking to the medium size lakes around Longville. Panfish should be up shallow, and bass feeding up shallow. Hard to know with the weather we have been having, but bass would normally be post spawn at this time. Enjoy!

I know when we head up that way we love stopping at breweries on our way up to northern MN. Have a great time!

Largemouth, Smallmouth, Walleye, Pike, and Musky is what I am considering the grand slam. I seen it on a video.

A couple days on Leech Lake could take care of that The hard one will be the muskie...seems they're a lot harder to catch when you target them. Caught plenty while bass fishing...zero while muskie fishing!

Theoretically you can do that right on the lake you're staying on.

Muskie would be the hard one for sure. I have caught 3-4 on a home made long chatter bait, two I saw shallow and though hmm Ill toss at them. Caught both within 4' of the boat with a pause and jerk.

Today I caught the rest on your list on Mill Lacs. I hate catching Northern they stinky...

Most of the lakes in that area will be able to get you the Grand Slam. If you fish for a week for bass, you have about a 10% chance of getting a muskie on accident in that area. Would likely need to target walleye specifically for a while, but shouldn't be too tough. Enjoy and good luck! I hope you have good weather!
