App for tracking day on the water

Going smallmouth fishing up north on one of the big lakes. We are hiring a guide on day 1 and will fish three days after that. Any suggestions on inexpensive apps to track the locations we are fishing offshore?

Hopefully you mean to track the places you find and not poaching the guides spots that he brings you to..

If you have an iPhone, the cheapest option is to add pin to your Apple Maps app.

the most practical is navionics app but that’s $50/yr

Every time you take a photo of a fish, open your map and drop a pin, text the location to yourself or wife or whomever. It will be retrievable in texts when needed.

Also, simple “map my walk” or “Map my ride” will map a trail of everywhere you go.
Hang on. I'll help you in 77 minutes.

I plan on fishing the same spots for multiple days and the guide knows that. These lakes are massive and we are going out in his boat so we would never find these spots in the middle of n o thing without using some type of APP. I saw Navionics was $50 and I’ll pay it if I have to but would prefer to find something less expensive. I would say poaching would only apply if we lived up there and were going to fish them every weekend for the next 20 years. This will be our first trip up there and if we go back it might be a once every 5 year kind of thing.

We have used the same guide for many years in NW Ontario and have discussed this. He said guides have a real problem with making waypoints. They don’t share their spots with anybody.

Our guide has no problem with it given that we are only there for 3 days and won’t be back. To each their own.

If your guide doesn’t have a problem with you going back to the spots he showed you. Don’t know why anyone else would?

I've used an app called Anglr in the past to mark spots when I caught a fish. It'll mark your trail also I believe. I haven't used it in a few years though but worked good when I did use it.

If you have location services for the camera on your phone turned on just a simple picture will record that location, it's not necessary to drop a pin, it's built into the metadata of the image. I also use a free app called gps tracks you can drop pins and even record tracks.
