We will be there a day before bass season opens so the first day we are going to try and find some crappies. My question is anyone familiar with that area for crappie ? Know where to begin to look ? Thank you

I will be getting there on the 14th also. Staying just up the street from the store and boat ramp at Chippewa bay.
Had better luck for perch in that area than crappie

Apart from Black Lake, you are in the wrong neighborhood for crappies. Our place was in Blind bay, which is around the corner at the East end, and really never fished for them much, just remember NYS is 10" min.
Our place was on Allen Rd and launched my Cobra 201DC at Hurricane Joe since the little launch next to the house would be useless mid July. We sold it last yr due to my health challenges and my in-laws turning 90's, though I still fish up there down Clayton area since I have a friend that owns cottages and motel in Clayton. Been fishing The River for over 50yrs, but getting harder as the yrs fly by.
Black Lake is just minutes up the road from Chippewa. That would be the best bet for crappie.
