    Xplorer Power Cable

    Guys,

I just got the Xlpore and they sent a 6' Power Cable. This is about 8 ft short. The power cable has a Red, Black, and Ground Wire. There are 3 wires which is new to me. I have Lithium Battery in the front right comparment and a Fuse Block. It currently powers my Helix 10 and Helix 9 units.

Can I use a 12 GA SO Cord + butt splice connectors to lengthen the power cable?

Where do I connect the ground wire?

I spoke to Humminbird Customer Service. The power cable can be legthen with butt connectors but I had to stay with 12 Ga Wire. They also said to ignore the ground wire... kind of strange but I am good with it if that's there recommendation.

I think I am good on the power side of the project.

You can use that cable, but tinned copper wire is better for marine use to prevent corrosion.

The unit installation instructions has a fuse panel illustration that shows to connect the negative and DRAIN wire together.
You can do that where you splice the extension wires or extend the DRAIN wire to the battery negative.

The PC13 Power cord which comes with the Apex is also used for the Mega Live and Mega Live2. In those cases, it is important to connect the third drain/shield wire to a ground source. On the Xplore and Apex, it isn't necessary to connect it to a ground source.
