Trailer light cable pealing off

Has anyone else experienced this? Hope the pictures show what I am talking about but the coating is pealing away from the wires as if they were cut by a blade. There's no small pieces in the area that would suggest a rat or mouse. The upper part is already wrapped in tape and new pealing is going on behind it.

I had a similar thing happening to my 2018 Pantera Classic. It was an easy fix for me. On mine, if you fold the tongue, I found that is just basically a pig tail that is plugged into a 5 flat and screwed/bolted to the frame to hold it in place. I went to my local dealer, bought a new “pig tail” and replaced it. It was a 10 min job. I think that rubber coating deteriorates from time and just starts peeling off.

I've seen this for yrs with this style. I seen it with my dad's tractor and trailor semi many yrs ago. I've seen it with the hand control on the CNC I run. The outer sheathing just deteriorates or stretches and just gets longer. A few yrs back I was gna swap to this style. Then I remembered. As stated it's a easy fix. You can order and replace. If you keep the rig though it will happen again. Just nature of this style. As much as I like it....it has some flaws.

Yep…My 16 Ranger was all taped up from that. I was too lazy to replace. Lights still worked fine.

My 2022 looked like that. I just replaced it.

My 2023 after only 22 hrs was doing the same thing. Replaced it.

We have not seen that as a common issue, though we have consistently been searching to replace the added pigtail with a one piece harness. That is not a present item, and they should convert to the 7 pin Pollack style that every automotive company has transitioned to. We are still left to pigtail and extension, and this is one we desire to change.

I have used this flawlessly since 2014. Yes I use a adapter polak style plug

I had the same problem on my Classic. My plug was stuck behind the brake actuator and i had to remove the whole trailer tongue to get it loose.

Happened on my 2021 Caracal.

Happened on my 2020 Caracal trailer. I replaced it with the same. BCB parts or Amazon has the replacement.
