    5/17 Anita report

So didn’t get out very early. I heard the wind blowing in the morning and slept as long as I could and relaxed a little in the morning. But wanted to get out a little in the morning… Once on the water I wanted to check out a few spots the first spot is on the south end and that wind had that little lake white caping! ( probably only 1ft tall waves lol not that bad) that spot didn’t pan out so off to the other spot. Nothing going there so did some other things that I normally don’t do (just testing a few different things out) moved to a proven spot and got a couple small males about 13”-14” with a drop shot. The next spot was the same with some small little ones. The water has gotten dirtier and the pads are starting to come up.
I was a little disappointed that I couldn’t get better results but that’s how it goes. For me this is a harder time to fish. But I have Thursday and Friday off this week and should get out most of those days. Hopefully can learn something that can help me for the future.

As always, appreciate the reports. I think a lot of people probably stayed home on Saturday with the wind blowing like it did. I decided to try someplace fairly local but a place I had never fished before. Since it's a fairly narrow river I thought I could stay out of the wind. Man was I wrong. The way the wind was blowing wound up being right into my face trying to go upstream. I managed to get out of the wind a couple of times, but it was difficult. I wound up with 7 smallmouth and 1 dinky pike. Caught all the smallmouth on a Texas rigged craw and caught the pike on a crankbait. The smallies must be spawning because all of the ones I caught were in pockets or backwaters off the main river, out of the current. And several had bloody tails. Nothing big though, the largest three were probably 15" each. It was still fun fishing new water though.

It's nothing special in my book, but there have been some pretty nice musky caught out of it. I was in my kayak and was happy to just be dealing with the wind in my face and not rolling white caps! Wind is one of those things that I know generally helps the fishing, but I still hate fishing in it when it gets above 10-15 mph.
