I carry a small one but honestly, in today's world a cell phone has replaced the need. I'm not paddling, I'm calling my son to come get me.

Kinda the way I feel. I mostly fish a small city lake. If I lost all power, engine, trolling motor, and cell phone, the worst that could happen is I would drift to the shore of someone's million dollar lake home and I would have to go up and knock on the door and ask to use the phone.

I haven't carried the useless mushroom anchor since I moved out of the old tin boat 20 years ago. Both anchor and paddle was worthless even on that old Tracker. My boat is so loaded with tackle that I can't imagine hauling around an anchor heavy enough to anchor an 19 foot fiberglass boat.
Mushrooms are terrible. A 13 lb fluke anchor will hold a bass boat in anything but the worst conditions though

Id be afraid of getting shot tbh. Too many scared, trigger happy folks for me to go knocking on a stranger’s door.

I carry a paddle and an anchor. I’d rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

I've been stopped and checked on the water maybe a dozen times since I've been bass fishing. I don't remember ever being asked to see either anchor or paddle. Even the Texas game warden at Lake Fork that seemed to have an attitude....even made me unhook my fire extinguisher so he could see the expiration date, didn't ask for those things. That was a first, usually it's just "your papers please" and life preservers and float pillow.

I carried a 15lb mushroom anchor in my 19' Bass Cat. It would hold in 20 mph wind. Anything higher, I am going home or to protected water.

I carry a paddle, no anchor. I've used the paddle more times than I can count to push of of submerged stumps.

You have to have one by law here. Anchors are not required but I carry an ~20ld fluke anchor and a lot of rope. The paddle can move the boat as ling as you are not fighting the wind. The anchor can prevent you from drifting further away or into dangerous waters.

IMO these are the most critical items for boating after PFDs.

Not required in GA but I have always kept one in the boat. Also keep an anchor with 100' of rope.

Several years ago when launching our 18’ pontoon I had not checked if the motor was going to start (idiot move, learned a good lesson ) I had my wife just pop me off the trailer. I didn’t have a paddle on board so when the motor didn’t start I had to use the lid from my Igloo 6 pack cooler to paddle back to the ramp
