Well, IMO, the hate came when they started producing these super duper expensive wiring harnesses. Early on, it was rumored that the bigger the wire and more voltage will clean up the images and give you better returns. It has since been proven wrong but everyone still believes that you need 1 ga wire and a generator to run the units and plus they add 4 units to the front and 4 to the back. Then the factory wiring becomes obsolete. Now a normal boat wiring will handle a normal setup. But in my non professional opinion, thats where the hate comes from.
These aftermarket harness company themselves usually have a pretty shaky understanding of basic electrical theory, then you get the consumers who dropped big money for them along with install wanting to justify their purchases preaching the gospel that it's the best money they ever spent. It's a weird niche in the market, I feel like any installer or DIY would be able to rig their own setup just as easily (and way cheaper and cleaner) vs purchasing a pre-made harness.

Most of the recommendations are massive, massive overkill for very low power draw devices.
