Water getting inside sd port on apex

The other day it rained all day while I was on the lake. When I got home I was drying everything out and noticed the front apex had water inside the sd port. I removed the unit and did my best to dry it out all week. The front unit is almost laying flat so I kind of understand how the water got in. I checked my apex and solix at the console and both of them had a decent amount of water in the sd port as well (not as much as the tilted front unit). After letting all of them dry out this week they appear to be working fine…. Any suggestions on a way to get a better seal on them? I was thinking put a small bead of silicon around it then close it.

I've never had a water intrusion issue with the SD cover on Solix or Apex. I've always felt that the cover was a tight fit. Not really sure what you could do to improve it... maybe tape over it when not using it?

Not a bad idea. A small piece of black duct tape should help prevent any water getting in. I’ve never had this issue before and I don’t swap cards often unless I’m updating. I don’t feel like the card door is worn out. Possibly all 3 doors was left partially opened I’ve seen some moisture in the card readers before but nothing like I seen this time and I’ve fished in a lot heavier rain. I’ll keep an eye on it thanks for the idea

Get some pvc tape, it won't leave a residue. I use it on my spools to limit the amount of line that can over run. It is not the same as electrical tape in that it is more flexible and no residue. I use it on my tm shaft for cables etc also.

I was not aware of PVC Tape. Very interesting. It even comes in larger 2", 3", and 4" widths.

Yes, while looking for a link to post I found it in 1/2" width and ordered it. I use it on my reels like I said. I have been cutting down 1.5 inch wide for a few years.

Scotch 33 electrical tape. Tape on all four edges. Have had absolutely no issues in the past with this cover, BUT just a little extra insurance. Makes me feel better.

I 100% hate the sticky goo from duct tape or electrical tape. I will def look into this Thanks for sharing!

I use Velcro straps for all my cable rigging on trolling motor shaft but I think the pvc tape might work for it and I can cut me a few pieces for the sd card cover

I have a golf club bag sleeve sliced open, that wraps around my tm shaft and cables then pvc tape over it, so the shaft is smooth.
