    Yard & holes

Does deer dig holes in the ground, my yard is getting holes that are about 6 inches deep and has a point at the bottom of each one. seems odd to me but these are about 4" wide. I dont think its squirrels. What would an animal be digging for. We have about 3/4 does in our area. May have to buy a camera. Any ideas

I’d say skunk. If it’s a deer, there are two times normally a deer digs/paws the ground, when it makes a scrape (for a doe) which is 2’ diameter give or take and if there’s salt in the ground. Whether it be a natural salt deposit or run off from a salt/mineral block. They can be from a few feet to several feet wide and from several inches to a few feet deep. I’ve seen some that looked like some one was getting ready to hide a couple bodies .

Neighbors dog was sneaking down and digging holes in our yard. I was same as you wondering where the hell they were coming from. Caught him the other day doing it. Not sure what the heck he is digging for.

No doubt...Armadillo. they will tear a yard up. Seen those holes many times. They are mostly nocturnal. Go outside and check a few times with a .22 after 10pm until you go to bed.

Careful with armadillos if you decide to zap one, they have been known to carry the bacteria that causes leprosy.

Skunks make shallow holes that look like somebody is practicing chipping a golf ball in your yard. Not sure about armadillos.

If you have any fire ant mounds an armadillo will destroy them. They are like little anteaters.

Put cameras out, I think you have unidentified life forms from outer space digging up your yard, it could be your neighbor playing with your mind while you sleep. However there is a very high probability you have a armadillo problem or shunk problem, if skunk you would probably pick up on its stinch if it were around. I think George Strait sang a song about it " Armadillo by Morning".
