It's good and yes there is a lot of value.
Dusty is the proper word for an old bottle.

Or drink it a little at a time if it is something you don't want to go out & pay big money for. Maybe your dad was going to give it to you sometime anyway. If your dad is gone, it's something to sip when you think about him.

You did not pay for it. I say break the seal on his birthday and have a drink to celebrate your father’s life. Then drink the rest how you see fit.
yeah, you could let it sit on a shelf or sell it, but I do not think you would get the real value from those 2 options. God bless the good dads!

When my dad passed in 2018 found an unopened bottle of Old Grandad, guessing it was from the 70’s. Never thought about selling it, me and his grandson’s enjoyed it one evening. While my head still hurts thinking about the next day, we had a blast talking about their Grandpa. My favorite story the boys tell—they knew he was pretty tight with his money and they swear he put a coupon in the plate at church!

When my dad passed I found an un opened can of Schlitz beer in his garage twenty years later. What’s it worth?

Powder horn bottle from 1964 unopened is worth $12-18000. If it’s from the mid 80’s not so much yet. Worth saving for sure. Here’s a 1964 bottle.

I actually gave that bottle to my dad. He was not a bourbon drinker, so it sat for decades, ‘till he passed at 95…

You need to get the family together and open it on his birthday had celebrate by toasting his memory. However, be prepared that it may have gone bad. Depending on whether enough air got in through the cork. My wife had a bottle of Old Ezra 15 year old, 101 proof that she was gifted in 1981. That means it was distilled in 1966. We opened it on December 1, 2021, the day she retired. We had a big party at the house and opened it to toast her retirement. The cork fell apart when we tried to open it but we were able to get it out. BTW, it tasted great.

Bourbon was made to be opened and consumed, preferably with friends and family.

Here's a picture of the bottle we had.
