There was an old guy that lived behind us that had a thriving body shop with his brother. Him and his two brothers would go to the Indy 500 every year. For a looooong time. I miss those old guys they used to fix my bicycle when I was a young un.

If you are a race fan it is hallowed ground. My family moved to the west side of Indianapolis in ’72 and I attended every race in the ‘70’s. A bunch of my friends dad’s were in the race business and my dad’s employer sponsored a car. As a result I got some really cool experiences. But I haven’t been to a race since the mid ‘90’s. The CART/Indy Car rift chapped my backside.

I did go to all of the Moto GP races in the 2000’s. Those were fun events. It took a little digging the first couple years but you could get passes to ride your motorcycle around the track. I did that 3 or 4 times.

I have been several times to the track with parts mfg.'s like Monroe, AC Delco, Penzoil etc. as a Garage owner, auto tech. for "Carb Day" etc. They took us on garage and pit tours, lunch and drinks in the suites. Meet with some drivers, crew chiefs, pit crew guy's.

Back in the 60's I went 110 mph with my older brother. He had a souped up 55 2 door chevy (still in the family). That was plenty fast for me.....

Just think what they could really do?
If professionals who's careers depend on catching fish use FFS then that's what I'm using. Might be too simple of a philosophy but makes sense to me.

What an experience do you have any special memories or stories to share?

Been to Indy four times, twice with my Dad and twice with my father-in-law. All were in the ‘70’s. In the early 80’s I got to go on a practice day with a pit pass, courtesy of Dow Chemical and I got to chat and take a photo of Patrick Bedard who was a longtime writer for Car and Driver and qualified for Indy a couple of times. Days after I took his photo he survived one of the more horrific/spectacular crashes in Indy 500 history.

I was a subscriber to Car and Driver back then and I remember that crash. I believe that Bedard said that the only thing missing from his crash was a mushroom cloud!

As powerful and fast as it is, it ain't going into turn 1 without lifting like the Indycars do.
