I admit I have not tried it but an ugly stik would probably make a decent chatterbait rod.

For me, a MH Moderate Fast rod works perfectly for chatterbaits and buzzbaits. The Mojo Bass line has a couple of rods under $200 that will work.
The Victory rod line is also around $200.

This is still my favorite all time chatterbait rod to cover all scenarios. I like it better than my NRX+ and Alpha Angler.

I throw chatterbaits on a $80 Favorite White bird 7-2…. They label it heavy fast but it’s absolutely NOT a heavy fast.. more like a medium heavy moderate…. It’s got a composite style action/power, very parabolic.. I love it for chatterbaits!!

Having that kind of budget on a chatterbait rod is not necessary IMO. Once you're talking $200 range and up, that's bottom contact money. I was throwing them for awhile on a hand me down Lews Mach 1 rod and it was great. I'm using a Falcon Lowrider Lizard Dragger now and it's fantastic. Don't let the name fool you on that rod.

For even more budget, I've heard countless times that the Dobyns Colt 734 is a killer chatterbait rod. $79.99. Can find them even cheaper on Amazon if you keep your eye out.

I like the Falcon low rider 7’4” heavy cover jig rod. I know you said 7-2”, but it’s a good rod. Heavy power and listed as fast action but like many falcons more like moderate fast. It would be a good rod for the James River to throw strike king 4.0 and maybe 8.0 square bills too. Getting close to that time of year to try that on the River. I think Hallman used to use this rod for bladed jigs. Falcon makes a low rider bladed jig rod now, but I haven’t seen it. It’s 7’3”. The low rider 6-10” head turner may work as well

I throw mine on a BPS Crankin Stick. Good rod for the money IMO.
