    OG 360 interference

I have a gen 1 helix 12 for 360 that’s hooked up to a transducer on the transom and I have a gen 1 helix 9 with an SI transducer on the trolling motor. As soon as I turn the helix 9 on the 360 starts to wagon wheel and doesn’t seem to change when I’m adjusting the noise filters. Haven’t had a little of time to try to dial it in but it sucks only really being able to use 1 unit.

I know that on the newer 360 the noise filters are not progressive...that is, 2 is not stronger than 1, 3 is not stronger than 2, etc. Instead each setting accounts for a different range of frequencies. In my case I just had to go through them one-by-one until I found the setting that worked. Good luck!

Thanks Somata. I tried it Saturday morning working 1 unit at a time and it didn’t seem to make a difference even played with the surface clutter and no luck. I might have to upgrade one of the units and hope the mega doesn’t get the interference

Ive had both and I can tell you my mega has way more interference issues than my 360 ever did. I think upgrading is never the right answer with Humminbird. Keep at it and you will get it solved.

So, are you saying that I should keep my 1199/360 setup instead of upgrading to a newer fishfinder and M360? I was thinking of upgrading to a newer fishfinder to take advantage of Advanced GPS features with my Ultrex (iPilot Link is working fine between the two, though) and might have to get M360 as well depending on what software version is already on the fishfinder. I remember that the old 360 compatibility was removed on the Apex/Solix line above a certain version number.

I definitely don't agree with the "stay where you are" comment. There are thousands of people running Mega 360 without interference and im one of them. If you have an Advanced GPS trolling motor, I would definitely get a new Xplore or Apex and Mega 360. That will also give you the opportunity to go down the Mega Live 2 road should you later choose to go that route.

Thanks for the input on this; I didn't think that there was any way that Humminbird would sell so many 360 units with major interference problems, especially since have everything in one umbrella should help keep interference reduced with the processing power in these fishfinders to filter.

Seems you have other reasons for updating than just interference. In that case update as you see fit. For me, I’v had the most interference issues with the megahertz frequencies. The 455Hz has been pretty solid on my original 360 and Mega 360.

You can search this forum and find many people with mega 360 issues. Assuming they have not been scrubbed.

I actually have no interference issues right now—absolutely clean, even with a Garmin LVS32 running at the same time between the 360 and DCS transducer on the trolling motor shaft. I just thought it will be nice to take advantage of the rest of the A-GPS features.

I'm the moderator of this forum and I can assure you that things aren't "scrubbed" unless they violate board rules, like language, hate, attitude, and the like.

The reason you see lots of issues about all products on these types of boards, is becuase that is the main purpose of these discussion boards... to get answers to your questions and issues. Many (if not most) issues on these forums are from a lack of understanding of the products and not true issues with the product. While all products have issues, the vast majority of the users don't encounter issues so never visit these boards to report the "good news".

Threads only go back to Mar 25’. Is there a way to see older threads that I’m missing?

I miss understood the purpose of this board. I though the OP was seeking others opinions, my mistake. I will let those who have all the answers answer.

I'm not sure why you are only seeing threads back to March 25'. The old and very old stuff is still out there. Use the "Search" at the top of the screen. The "Search Thread" only searches the current thread.

You have not been paying attention. Al (owner of this site) has been restructuring it.

On the old 360 a ground wire down to the head of the tm made a big difference for me and at least 3-4 guys who asked me about interference issues who I told about it.

I ran the wire from the boat ground down to a ground clean spot on the tm head and put a hose clamp to hold it there.

Also polishing my armature would make it crystal clear for 3-4 months.

Just remembered I had to add the same ground wire with my old 360 but I grounded the trolling motor to the graph negative. When I upgraded to mega 360 this ground wire caused interference on the new unit so I had to remove it.
