HDS Live to HDS Gen 3

I currently have a HDS Live at the bow connected to AT1 and a HDI Transducer on the TM. This unit is currently not connected to the other units on the boat.

I also have a GEN 1 and GEN 3 at the console connected to each other via the original LSS1 box/transducer.

The GEN 1 is connected to a Transducer in the hull.

Can I disconnect the GEN 1 from the LSS 1 box so it only runs Reg Sonar and is not networked, plug the LSS1 Transducer into the back of the GEN3 then ethernet the GEN 3 to the Live to share waypoints as long as the GEN 3 is updated to 18.3 or whatever the latest download is?

Yes to all, some will say the LSS1 will cause Legacy Mode however I think it’s only the Structure module. Try it and see. If you get a Legacy warning then don’t do it.

If I get Legacy mode, will the Gen 3 support the 3 in 1 transducer that came with the Live?

If you get Legacy mode the Live won’t support the AI 3in1. It would still work for side and down scan but the 2D portion would be lost. The Gen 3 will never support it. It can only share the image with another unit

Yesterday evening I re-routed the transducer cable from the LSS 1 box to the port on the Gen3, then updated the Gen 3 to the latest software. I powered it up and ran an ethernet from the Gen 3 to the Live and everything appears to work properly without issue for waypoint sharing....

When your Gen 3 is updated to 18.2 it is no longer compatible with the LSS-module, only the LSS transducer connected directly to the black structure-port on the HDS. If you have used Ethernet between the HDS and the module already, disconnect again, save waypoints and do a hard reset. Do not connect the module to the unit again.

The lss1 module is now entirely out of the loop, the transducer that used to be connected to the module is in the back of the gen3 and the only Ethernet in use is between the gen3 and live, other then the Ethernet between the live and the at1 module.
That should work fine to share waypoints correct? I have not had it on the water yet but it seems to work without issue or a legacy notice on the live.

Waypoint sharing is possible with NMEA2K.
