If running is so evil and eats your knees, I should have zero cartilage left. I run most days since I started 9.5 years ago and regularly log 3500 miles a year. You guys would crap your pants if you saw my step count.

My last race was the Arizona Monster 300 miler, which was predominantly on the trails through the desert southern AZ and boasted 41,000 feet of climbing. (612,677 steps)

Running is not bad, its extremely healthy for you physically and mentally. But there are right ways an wrong ways to do it and build up, just like with any sports.

Did it when i had to with sports and hated anything cardio.. did some crossfit for a little while and it had a lot of "running" mixed in.. there were some times when i was younger id run a mile just to run and stay active. My wife talked me into a 5k a few years ago that i "trained" for aka ran 2-3 miles everyday for a few weeks up to the 5k. Dont think ive ran since but tell myself about daily or everytime i see a jogger that im going to start jogging. It is one of those dreaded things for me but the outcome/after you feel so good. Thanks for the reminder! This must be my sign lol

No doubt - there's a right way, and a not-right way. Pre-run stretching and strengthening are key to longevity. However, just like sunscreen application the importance of the "right way" wasn't stressed...so now I swim instead. My son, on the other hand, is in his second season at Ft. Hayes State as a CC & 1600/3200 m runner. He's logging 70-90 miles each week and never has had any issues. BUT...the pre-run routine is stressed more so than the distance itself. Difference between then and now.

I don't jog because I don't like the impact, although I do use the elliptical and weight train every workday at lunch because we have a gym at the plant. I find it hard to find time without either going to bed late or getting up early because of kids and home activities (and fishing) unless I do it during my lunch break. The post-workout protein drink carries me to about 1:30 pm, and I will eat a light lunch at my desk while sitting in a meeting or working on a report.

I have always hated jogging/distance running, it seems non-sensical to me. In school I ran track and played football and baseball, track was sprints and the long jump. I much prefer to ride a bicycle, play softball and ice hockey as a means for exercise these days.

I've always hated running - couldn't stand soccer practice other than scrimages. Like basscat21 I'll chase a ball until I puke - thus my racketball addiction.

I did notice a decline in strength (I'm 70) and now reluctantly drag mysef to the gym for weekly resistance training - has been a big help to rball game. Also do grip strength excercises in evening.
I too have admiration for the gym folks with a long road to physical fitness but are still there making the effort. Gotta start somewhere.

I'm grateful for the efforts I've put in - have friends that are limited now.

I don't run on concrete much any more, try to walk 3 miles in the morning and ride the Peleton for 20-30 minutes in the afternoon

I really need to go to the gym more, but I simply don't.

I hate jogging/running, in fact I hate watching soccer because it makes me feel tired to watch it.

I personally know about half dozen hard core runners, a couple made it to the olympic trials, everyone has had issues with knees, three of them have had replacements, one of them had both knees replaced, now these guys are older, youngest is around 55 and oldest is around 70. I try and get on a stair master 3-4 times a week, if I do run I do it on a treadmill.
