Truman is 6’ high and falling. I would guess it to be back to normal pool (706) by the time you get here. The fish will be changing between now and then, so don’t get too hung up on what they are currently doing.
Stockton is 5’ high guys are flipping the bushes. Most fish are spawned out. Water temp is upper 60s.
Good stuff guys. Sounds like you've had some good rains down your way. Water levels have been down the past couple of years we've been there so looking forward to the possibility of fishing some new water. Thank you!
Stockton is coming up and we have rain most of the week. We’ve had 4” in the last two days at my house. The smallmouth are moving to summer habitat but the largemouth are in or close to the bush. All that is subject to change with the rising water.
Lake is high (Stockton), still some in the brush. Starting to catch more more offshore tho

Last October we only got one day on Truman putting in at two different launches. The last in was at the Fairfield area as we were heading back to Stockton. Found some fish around the island and ran out of time before we could make our way in to the long stretch east past the 83 bridge. So much good looking water back there so we're definitely going to hit it and hopefully more than once this year. How far can a guy run on plane through the long arm of Pom-o-sa Heights to the southeast before needing to shut it down and being cautious? Also, when you say the smallmouth are already headed to or in their summer time haunts (offshore) what do we need to be looking for and at what depths? Certainly appreciate the comments and wise words of advice. Thank you
Not gonna lie it's been a tough 3-4 days of fishing. Lake level is way up about 13' higher than our previous two trips here. Most bites (few and far between) are coming from flipping flooded brush on main lake points or shoreline. A few in the backs of coves. Haven't been able to locate or catch any offshore fish headed for summer time haunts in channels drops offs or flats. Headed to Truman today. Hoping for better results with numbers and quality
Well Missouri trip was a bust. Several days of fishing in the rain. Several days of having to wait until thunderstorms passed to get on the water and one day of having to get off the water for the same. Best I could tell water was up 12-14'. 20' higher than our last two trips down there. Couldn't put a pattern together for nothing and couldn't locate any concentrations of post spawn fish. I think we had three keepers in seven days of fishing with a half dozen dinks. One of the toughest trips I've been on in years. The fellowship and bourbon and steak nights with friends made it all worth it though. Still counting my blessings

Any reply confirming "yeah it's been tough" or even "you just suck at fishing" would have been better than nothing
I talked to several anglers on the water and at the gas pumps during the week as well as watched those fishing around us and all pretty much confirmed that no one was catching. Talked to one guy with a sponsorship wrap on his boat (figured he knew what he was doing) and he said the biggest fish he caught after two days on Stockton was a 13"er. Oh well. There was a reason I had 12 combo's on deck which didn't pay off
Sorry that it turned out tough for you. If you come back next year maybe we can arrange a way to keep in touch while you are here and I can give you more current information if I have any.
We have had it good this spring. We are averaging over 30 bass per 6 hour day. However the bite has been very color, size and location specific.

Thank you Jig Man. Its a lot of water to break down but I'm pretty sure from the other boat activity, a lot of it seemed to be tournament guys Friday and Saturday, that we were fishing the same water as them. We were hitting the same spots and would watch them fish some areas we had already hit. Maybe they were watching us and thought we knew what we were doing.Originally Posted by Jig_Man
Could have been the color thing but we tried several different colors with all kinds of baits. We are planning for our tentative trip back down in October and know conditions will change again by then. Your help and information is always appreciated in helping us out of staters maximize our time on the water
There have been some 200 boat derbies down there lately. Last fall the smallmouth were incredibly shallow. If you didn’t hit within a few inches of dry land you were out of luck. No one knows what this fall will bring.
