Adding premium plus oil to fuel

    2015 Merc 250 pro xs
    2B11537

While doing the LU gear lube, I noticed that the beveled washer had some buildup like soot around it. I wondering if this is caused by not adding Premium Plus oil to the fuel? I've never done that nor did the previous owner (I think).

I just got done draining all the old fuel from the tank in boat and the VST. So if I were to add oil to the fuel, how much can I add?

    TIA.

Ok... well maybe the next-next-next time on the serial number digits.

The propeller, propshaft, prop nuts and washers are quite literally in the exhaust. As in just like the tailpipe of your car or truck.

If you do any amount of idling, it's going to soot up. Other factors such as fuel grade (use 87), additives, engine reaching operating temperature, type of oil being used, steady on the throttle or "Mr. Happy Foot", among others can all factor into exhaust and carbon buildup.

    Don,

Thanks for the explanation. Sorry I must've typo. 2B115737

There are no 87 with non-ethanol where I live or can access easily so I've only been using 91 octane non-ethanol since I've had the boat.

And what about the "adding oil to fuel to lubricate the fuel system?"

87 ETHANOL @ 10% or less is all you need.

You're selecting fuel based on BACKWARDS criteria. Take a look at the FAQ section, "Oil, Batteries, Fuel, Fuel Additives, Spark Plugs......" for very detailed information and explanation on this topic.
