Can you upgrade the powerhead on a 225 efi to an optimax powerhead.
Can you upgrade the powerhead on a 225 efi to an optimax powerhead.
Yes, it is possible to install an Optimax Powerhead on an EFI midsection.
You would need to replace the tuner (with the appropriate tuner for the Optimax), and either replace the adapter plate, or modify it to accept the compressor "regulator air dump" and "compressor coolant strainer & fitting".
Keep in mind, however, that if this is a 1998 or later engine, "any modifications that affect the emissions footprint are technically illegal" (yes, even those that improve the emissions.... go figure!).![]()

It is an 03. Is there any other advantage other than fuel usage?
Lower emissions.... lower fuel consumption, and improved starting/running characteristics.

Save yourself a ton of headaches. Sell the EFI and find a Opti to buy. I wouldn't even try what your talking about and I am way out there when it comes to experimenting![]()
