2009 Ranger Trail brake issue/rebuild
Hello,
I have a 2009 Ranger Trail, tandem axle with four wheel disc brakes. I've noticed a rattle from the axles and have finally discovered that the brake calipers are all loose. I haven't taken the time to pull a wheel and assess the issue. The boat is in storage near the lake I fish about 1.5 hours away so it makes working on it a bit challenging. I'm hoping someone can offer some guidance on potential parts that I can purchase prior to pulling the wheels in preparation to fix. I know I'll need new brake pads just by glancing and them. Any advice is welcomed. Thanks!

Hard to say what you may need without pulling the calipers off. Could the mounting bolts just be loose? Ranger changed suppliers for their trailer parts multiple times. UFP was a supplier and then others. Call Ranger with your trailer serial number. They may be able to help with getting the right parts but you really need to assess what is going on first.

When you find out the manufacturer call brakes4trailers they are very knowledgeable and will
have all the parts you need. Or you can buy the whole assembly and just bolt to axle. Good luck

I believe the first issue is air and rust in the system. There is a soft brake line on the port side that runs from the rear caliper to the front that has been rubbing against the frame.
The caliper design is such that they float on an unthreaded portion of the retention screw. Since there is air in the system, the pads have retracted significantly from the rotors creating excessive “clearance” between the two and added noise. Once the new brake line arrives, I’ll do a full flush and bleed and hopefully experience trailer braking again.
