Was Justin Lucas able to scout yesterday since they were on a new lake?

Think there will be a few more retirements by the end of the year besides Skeet.

I’m a little surprised Wheeler turned his on as he’s fishing the same current break as he’s been fishing all day it doesn’t seem like he’s really using FFS. Very interesting to watch him fish this spot.

Lewerence also very dialed in. He has a couple of things going for him so he should be able to keep catching them.

Certainly seems the case for so many of these kids under about 25yrs old.

It's so painfully obvious that Gill can't catch fish without scope on a level that that would keep him on the BPT or Elite level. I watch this dude go up shallow and cast around a neko or whacky without the scope and he can't even hardly cast. You can tell he's spent more time watching a graph than learning how to cast.

On the other hand you have another scope wizard in Lawrence who can actually fish without it.

How do you think he would do with triangulation with on shore points?

Gill does seem more dependent on it than most… He’s so good with it in the periods that he elects to use it that it keeps him very relevant as far as the overall standings are concerned. That being said, he’s sitting second in angler of the year and having a hell of a season. So you got to give him some credit - I think ya all are being a little harsh, not a lot harsh you do have a case. .

I was watching old Bassmaster Elite Series events on YT last night like the KVD win on Toledo Bend in 15 or 16....right before this tech came on the scene, and it was like watching a completely different sport. He rightfully credited the new mapping technology with his win, but that's still such a far cry from live sonar technology.

The guys who say certain pros can’t catch a fish without a black box could make a decent living out of calling those pros up and challenging them to a head to head contest. Might even get some screen time, for instance, when you take on a Patrick Walters, etc. and beat them.

Kudos to Drew Gill for finding a way to fish his strengths under the different format. Seems like a good young man, obviously loves to fish, and you never hear anything about crossing the line, breaking rules, failing polys, etc. I really like the new BPT format & have enjoyed every derby including this one with 2 different lakes!

    Fair enough.

I could likely fish with FFS the rest of my life and never approach the level of skill and talent he has with it. He's arguably the world's best scoper. I just think he gives the anti FFS folks the perfect example of how this tech is really the only thing you need to master in order to compete at the top level of Bass fishing.

Gill can make most top 10s only using FFS. It was interesting to see him beat Wheeler when they both didn't have it on the final period/day, and he managed to catch one or two more fish without it and win. I just feel if they banned it 100% he'd be unable to sustain a top level career. Maybe he'd adapt and learn to fish old school, he sures seems like a really smart kid.

You don't see a difference b/t Drew Gill and Walters?

That said, every single person on the BPT or Elites would stomp a mudhole in me on the water, I'm not saying I'm a great angler. I'm pointing out how ridiculous FFS is in some cases.
