    Prize Package Rod Build

Fresh build hot off the bench. Some good friends of mine run an organization called Memories Made Outdoors and have made it their mission to get vets and first responders outdoors, whether it be fishing, hunting, or camping. They host a crappie tournament each spring on Lake Minnetonka and I've fished it every year since its inception, minus this year cause we were in Oklahoma. Along with the tournament, this year they have taken over as the organization running the Minnetonka Crappie Contest, a family friendly event with a $20 per person entry fee. You bring one crappie to the scales and their are prizes for 1st thru 5th for largest crappie in both adults and kids divisions. Along with that, there is a mystery weight drawn the morning of the tournament and the first person to weigh a fish that matches the weight, or the person that gets the closest to the mystery weight, wins the grand prize package. They asked me if I could build a rod to be a part of that prize package and they are pairing it up with a Shimano NASCI 2500 reel. I built one out using an NFC DS6100-1 6'-10" Medium X-Fast blank and Fuji Alconite guides. I used the Fuji Prisma 702 Peacock colored thread, and in the split grip and foregrip area I used some 6lb mono to give it some texture to let the Prisma thread do its thing. This rod looks awesome out in the sun. Someone will enjoy it for a long time to come.

Very nice !!! Definitely a sweet rod.

I've had that color of the Prisma thread in my cart a couple of different times and never kept it there. That's about to change though. Love it !!!

I have all but one of the Prisma colors and I want to grab the last one but it always seems to be out of stock when I make an order. I love the way they look out in the sun.

The Justace "Aurora" threads are another great option. All the Justace threads are great to wrap with in my experience.

I am definitely planning to get those JustAce thread options when I make the next order from Voodoo.

Crazy thing was, I ended up winning the grand prize package for the mystery weight. There was so much stuff in there. I ended up donating the rod and reel combo back to the organization to give away to one of the vets they take on one of the trips. My fiance ended up getting 5th place for big crappie in the adult division. We won 300 bucks on pull tabs at lunch. Man, talk about an awesome day on the water!
