    Homemade jackplate!!

Built not bought…. Does a 9.9hp really need a jackplate? Probably not…. Lower unit was definitely hanging pretty low in the water…. Should be about right now!! Maybe I’ll pick up 1 or 2 mph…. Stainless prop coming soon… I might be able to drill another couple holes and come up a little more…

That look's good, I have a 9.9 Merc 4S with power trim/tilt, remote controls and steering for a kicker on a Lund with a 225 Merc EFI.

That looks great, though when bringing it up more, remember the motor is also your rudder that you are maneuvering the boat with.

I put a cmc power tilt/trim/jack plate under my 25 hp Etec. It made quite a difference on my 1448mv. My Etec had only manual tilt/trim using the pin.

About 6.2 with the wind and waves is what my efi 9.9 Zuki tops out on my 20 foot Lund….I don’t think the JP will help.

Something to think about putting a stainless steel prop on a 9.9 motor: if you hit something hard like a rock, the prop shaft takes all the shock, not the prop. I was going to do this with my 60 hp Evinrude and the mechanic said it is cheaper to replace a prop vs a drive shaft.

Mine is a little 14’ tracker…. It was running 23 loaded to fish before the jackplate..

    We don’t have rocks here…. I’ll take my chances….I don’t think I’ll hit anything hard enough to ruin a shaft on a 9.9 running a whopping 23 mph….

Had a bobs on my last lil marsh rig….. I thought about getting another one for this one but, just hard to justify $1300 for a jackplate for 9.9….. maybe later on tho….

im making this lil boat fancy intentionally as it will be with me for a long time to come.. (it’s going to eventually ride and live on a lift on my houseboat I’m building to live on). It’s getting wrapped and will have a seadeck interior…

Oh, I definitely thought about it and sketched a couple designs, sourced the parts needed.. the ram/cylinder/pump is the easy part… limited metal working tools on hand complicate things.. I wish I had access to a nice machine shop without paying machine shop hourly labor rates!!

I put one of those on my Falcon Super Tiger. Made a world of difference.

That 9.9 Zuki 4S is easily converted to a 20 hp for about $200. 9.9, 15, and 20 hp are the same engine but use different ECUs (not sure what Zuki calls them). Of course, you will need a different prop also.

Been in 2 Trackers with converted Zukis….both ran in excess of 20 mph….with more left to go.

Remember, it is not the MPH that matter when hitting something with the prop vs the boat, but it is the inertial force of the prop against the shaft as it rotates, which in a little 9.9hp is probably small diameter harden steel prone to shatter during shock of impact due to its increased brittleness after the hardening process.

    ok man….

maybe I shouldn’t drive my truck because I may hit a curb or guardrail or something….

maybe I shouldn’t go to Walmart, i might trip and hurt myself…

maybe I shouldn’t go to work, plant might blow up….

    live life man.. if it breaks, I’ll fix it… Geeze..it’s a 9.9…

man I’ve been outside working on my lil boat…I got to thinking…. Do you not have a stainless prop on your bassboat?
