Anyone think spawn is over on Newton ?
-
Nope, on the east arm it is still very much on from what I have seen the past three days. Saturday afternoon was the first day that I thought they locked on from what I saw

I was there today 5/8. All kinds of action going on in the reeds and caught 2 that were full of eggs. But I also caught a 5-5.5 lber skinny and spawned out on a football jig in 10-12 feet of water. There is fry all over both sides of the lake as well. I’m not sure how many are left to spawn but there’s definitely some left.

Has the lake been fishing tough for anyone else? Not sure if its the higher water, the cooler spring that we had or multitude of other things but I haven't had a good day there in over a month.

We have been out there quite a bit and whacking them pretty good. The spawn was definitely late. We were just there Father’s Day and my Dad caught one almost 6 lbs that still had blood on her tail. Every day is different but we’ve been catching anywhere from 25 up to 50-60 fish. We caught 15 keepers one day and our best 5 would have been 25-26 lbs. A couple other friends and my tournament partner have said they’ve been catching them too. They say the buzz bait bite has been really good early but we don’t do any bank beating this time of the year. We’ve been catching everything 12-18 feet deep. Being that the spawn seemed late it should actually get better. It’s supposed to be 90 and some wind this Saturday. I anticipate Saturday will be amazing.

Fished last Wed thru Sunday.
From reed edges out, used no name white/gray back (4-6')crank. Added a big black dot with a marker on each side and game on.
As illinoisbassfishin stated about the 12-18' range, those depths treated us well.
If you have Humminbird or Garmin units, just highlight 12-24' depths and fish that range
Old style(skinny body) Power craw black blue Texas rigged and a split shot 12" up inched down the incline. Same rigged, same color Culprit worm. Chuck plastics did not fair well
Plastic fished slowly in those depths definitely caught the bigger fish each day.
Afternoon(2-5pm) seemed to be a bigger fish bite.
Good Luck

I went yesterday for a few hours and finally pieced it all together, had a little under 19lbs with one over 6. She looked pretty freshly postspawn, so that makes a lot sense about the spawn going later.
