    Lowrance ghost

The lower unit on my ghost is very loud. Took it to service center today according to Lowrance since there was no water intrusion in lower unit the rotor is bad , but they discontinued the rotor because too many technicians were tearing lower unit up taking it apart so my only option now is to buy a new lower unit for $1100 so now I’m stumped on what to do $1100 to fix which part is on back order or buy a new trolling motor with warranty the motor is 4 years old

Thats a shame. 4 years old is not long enough to need a major repair of the motor. A motor should last longer, especially a brushless motor without water damage. Maybe look at the other current motors for durability. Good luck, Bob

That explains why it sounds like a bearing right behind the prop then it’s my understanding you also have to replace the end cap or it won’t seal

Sorry to hear about this. That is pretty spendy for the bottom end. I would not wait 2 months or whatever to get it fixed. A Move or Ultrex Quest would be on the table.

I guess if it’s out of warranty I’d take it apart and see if the bearing/bearings could be pressed off the shaft and replaced, nothing to loose really…

Run in to things like this a lot farming manufactures want to sell complete replacement when it’s only a small problem that cost dollars to fix instead of thousands….

techs tearing them up? well then they should make it right and replace yours. these companies, all of them with their 3 warranty crap, they know damn well after 3 years is when their garbage starts to break. Mercury, Lowrance, Motorguide, all of them. We pay big money and get 2-3 years out of something then we have to buy again. The American way these days.

The problem with pulling the rotor out and trying to replace the bearings is you have to pull the end cap off and everybody I’ve talked too says if you remove the end cap it must be replaced which is a terrible design I’ve found a few rotors but nobody has the end cap
They’ve designed that end cap to remove with a spanner wrench but everyone says even with the exact spanner wrench it’s very difficult to remove because it’s torqued so tight and evidently it has a seal that gets damaged when removed and you can’t replace that seal all the techs I talked to today say Minnkota done the same thing deemed the lower unit not repairable have to replace if these brushless motors are nice until they quit working

Ya I am sure you could just press new bearings on and reinstall assuming outer seats did not get damage. Hearing about this end cap thing could throw a wrench in the project though. I would most certainly attempt the repair, but I can get the bearings for no cost at work so if it did not work out, it would be no loss to me.

I see the end cap on trolling motor parts.com 99.00 with seals…As my deceased Grandpa used to say if they sell parts you must be able to fix it… I’d give that end cap a good dose of heat, before trying;)
