Yes, it is a good idea! I have a very good relationship with Megabass and we take care of customers who buy through our shop should issues arise.
With regard to breakage issues X-Bites specifically, no, there have not been reports of a higher break rate than you would expect on high modulus rods of this nature. I've been fishing with the X-Bites since before it was released publicly and have caught hundreds of bass on mine and it's still going strong. I've sold a LOT of this model since its release, and the few breaks I have dealt with have been primarily user error. As with all rods, there will occasionally be a manufacturer defect, but these have been infrequent in the P5 series in general. When they have arisen for my customers, working with Megabass, I've resolved them quickly, efficiently, and relatively painlessly. That's a benefit of buying domestically from a company who still values customer service.

Dobyns extreme HP 743 is an excellent Senko/ fluke rod. Also, a great finesse jig/ heavier ned rig rod. You guys are a tough crowd saying it isn't a sensitive rod, pure crazy talk.
I've been hearing the same. I got on the Mega bass train for awhile and bought Levante's Orochi'e and a Destroyer. I got back off the train at about the second station. The way they handled the first gen Levante issues torqued me off . I'll always buy the baits but no more rods for me.
I did find a good deal on a Steeze BC2 and picked it up for the heck of it. We will see what happens with Daiwa pricing.
The Steez AGS line is getting jacked up to around $750 from what THUT said. I’m assuming every retailer is going to have to conform to these prices. No one’s safe from these tariffs unfortunately. I wonder how the used market is going to look after these price jumps.
Ten years ago I exclusively used Megabass and Dobyns ( Extreme HP) rods. As I replaced rods I went all in with Dobyns. Want's on my front deck now are pretty much all Dobyns (90:10). After over fifty years of fishing I finally realized that rods are just personal preference. The HP's and Xtasy's are plenty sensitive enough for me. I will add that just about all my spinning rods are Addermines.
I would suggest you go to a tackle store and put your hands on the rods you are considering. As I said, rods are just personal preference.
Thank you. That’s great advice. I do love the balance of my Dobyn’s champion extremes, but they’re the most “high end” rod I’ve ever used. I hear some people say rods like the p5, steez ags, NRX+ etc are “on another planet” as far as sensitivity is concerned so of course it makes me really want to try them.
On the topic of price increases, any chance @bronzefly could confirm or deny some of the claims made in this thread? I understand if not.
I agree 100% with putting hands on before buying high end but….where and how? No store in my area that I know of carries the higher end Loomis,Steeze,P5 or even slightly less high end like Shimano Poison Adrena. Northern Bass Supply has been closed for years now and that’s the only place I know of in my area New Hampshire/ Maine that carried Loomis IMX or that level. For me unless I run into one of you at the ramp and your holding a Daiwa Steeze AGS i will never touch one unless I order it online. Kittery trading Post (about 20 miles away) carries some Zodias and part of the Megabass Lavante line, both fine lines but not really high end

Got out with the xbites today at a local fishless river, just to get the feel for its sensitivity and weight. It feels like a rod that I could use for long stretches and not be fatigued and sensitivity is spot on. Handles a 1/4oz jig nicely and next time will try a 3/8. Can see how a Senko would work well on it. Really don’t use much in the way of Texas rigs but will try that as well next time.
