    NRX+ 842S SJR Reviews?

Trying to find a used model but in the meantime was wondering what you guys think of this model and what you use it for. I have an Expride B 7’2 ML, NRX+852/803S, and P5 Addermine at the moment. Dont think I need such a powerful rod (803) for skipping docks when I have the 852 and the Addermine is perfect to me for dropshots/ned rigs instead of the Expride B 7’2 ML.

Thinking of consolidating the 803/Expride B 7’2 ML and heard the 842 is super versatile and would fit the bill for what I’m looking to do without being redundant. Needed a strolling rod plus something that’ll complement the 852/Addermine instead of constantly retying one rod for multiple applications. Basically a slightly lighter version of the 852 that can stroll, dock skip when I need to, and throw lighter baits than the 852. Addermine would be my dedicated dropshot/ned rig rod.

    Any input would be appreciated!

The 842S will do exactly what you're looking for. It's basically a slightly lighter 852. If you want a stolling rod that's not super light weight then it's prefect. It's also a great weightless senko rod,

I personally don't think you will like the 842 for skipping. You put something under a dock you will have a hard time moving them out from under with the 842. The 852 still has some power to move the fish out.

I have a pair of the 842s and use it for minnow baits for FFS and drop shots in the 1/4-3/8 oz range. It is also a great open hook / open water rod.

Would you be interested in selling me one of them? LOL

Yeah I’d probably use the 852 as the dock skipping rod. Mainly looking for a strolling/versatile lighter version of the 852

Would you say this about the 842c as well? Same power as the 842s? I prefer to skip a wacky worm on a baitcaster.

I have a buddy who loves his 842s NRX+. Wacky rigs and strolling is what he does a lot on that rod. I could also see it making a good deep water dropshot rod. Its an overall super versatile finesse stick.

Would the X10 Medusa be a good solution for what I’m looking for since finding an 842S seems impossible?

Medusa is not a skipping rod - the tip is way too fast and way too soft.

I don't have experience with he 842C but if it has the same ratings as the 842S I don't think you would be happy as a skipping rod. You may get more power out of the 842C as you could use heavier line with the casting reel.

I have an 842c conquest and it is a great whacky worm, drop shot, shakey head rod, and I am pretty confident it would skip either a weightless senko or whacky rig under a doc very well. Also throws a 1/8 to 3/16 underspin with 3.2” to 4” swimbait very well I love the rod but I don’t know how it compares to the nrx+ in either casting or spinning. Maybe someone knows?

As you know, all of our opinions are subjective. I live in Massachusetts and z520brewer lives in Texas. The rod has some good universal usage in very different parts of the country.

Just a side note, I was dropping on beds this past weekend using the 842S. Using 1/4 drop shot with a wacky rigged 5" Senko and the rod was money for doing that. Had a few in the 4 plus range with no issues.
