Can't prime after change fuel/water separator

    Hello all

This isn't the first time I've changed this flippin' filter...

Got the new one on and started priming. I never felt or heard the fuel flow so I took the filter back off. Bone dry. Not a drop of fuel. I retightened and tried again. Same.

I dumped the fuel from the old one and put it back on (in case the new one was faulty). Same thing.

With mirror and light I could see the surface where the o-ring makes contact had build up on it. Cleaned it up. Verified I got a good seal (oil transfer from o-ring), but still no fuel. Filter is still bone dry.

All I did was swap filters. I'll agree it could be the primer bulb, but I'm "reasonably" sure the primer bulb is working at least partially. With the filter off, I can feel air pressure build when I squeeze the bulb while covering the inlet on the racor (?).

FWIW, the fuel lines from the tanks to the selector switch are less than 6 months old. The old ones weren't that bad though.

Any other tests I should try? This all worked before I pulled the filter off.

    Thanks in advance.

I change mine every fall. I fill the new filter almost to top with fresh gas and install. Then it primes every time. With the cowling off you can see when the engine mounted filter starts to fill...

Well, it appears it was the primer bulb after all. I pulled the racor head out (please correct me if that is wrong terminology) and cleaned it up. I replaced the short fuel lines (selector switch to racor, racor to bulb) also since I had the hose available.

I started priming and managed to forget to put the filter back on. Doesn't prime worth a damn that way. Got it on, and started priming. After a few minutes I was getting worried so I pulled the filter off. Lo and behold, it was half full. Now I'm a happy camper.

Finished the priming and started the motor. This saga is over. Until the next one...

Is the primer bulb before or after the filter assembly?

After. That's how it was when I bought the boat. Tanks -> fuel selector -> filter -> engine
