Mercury Pro XS 250 spark plug wires

Last time I had my boat out, I started having a skip, and couldn’t get the RPMs or speed that I normally get, so I figured I would start with the plugs, as I’ve had it a few years, and it’s over 250 hours. Today I changed the plugs, and they all looked fine, grey, not wet, and the gap was still to spec. While I was changing them, I noticed that the number 7 plug wire had been resting against a hose that is near by (thinking it’s a fuel line) and the insulation had been worn away from vibrating against the hose.

Im thinking that the best thing to do is swap out the wires. Anyone know any tricks to do this job? The wires run through a loom behind the exhaust. I’m hoping the exhaust and hoses don’t need to come off, as that seems like a real pain in the ass.

it’s a wonder to me that they would design the valve covers to hold the top 3 wires nicely, so they can’t touch anything, but the bottom wire is left to just flop around. Would cost them about $2 to make a bracket with a clip to hold the wire properly lol.
