How badly did I screw up my boat

Yesterday afternoon I took advantage of the nice weather for a few hours fishing before dinner. I don’t normally fish afternoons let alone on a Monday so in my excitement, In my haste I left with the trailer brake activated. I learned this when I got home

When I reached down to activate the brake is when I realized what I had done, as it so happens there is a tensioner at the end of the handle and by adjusting it I got the brake to work.

Well, all you probably screwed up is the brakes, if that makes you feel any better. I’m not diy on that sort of thing, preferring to let professionals [those whom I do trust] tell me how to proceed. You might get different advice here….

I think everyone with a Ranger has done it before. The brake handle is very counter intuitive. Up should be latched. Outta sight outta mind should be released. Haha
I forgot twice in the first week I had it. I just don’t use it now. Wheel chocks.

What year boat? Are you sure the brakes were fully functioning? I’m surprised you didn’t see or smell something alerting you if the brakes were actually engaged.

This!! If they were working it would be hard to tow, smell badly, and so hot they are almost on fire and glowing red

Duramax would tow it without even knowing his back here with the brakes locked up fully, but I’m not sure a Ford would

The F250 could pull the complete Duramax/Ranger rig all locked up.....

I agree…I’ve got the same truck and engine. You probably just wore the pads down some. The parking brake probably doesn’t put as much brake pressure as the surge system. You can always disconnect the light connector and try backing up. If the brakes don’t lock up…you have an issue.

They’re adjustable so all you did was wear the brake pads a little bit. I’m surprised that
they didn’t heat up and smoke. They are on the 2 back wheels so climb under trailer
and you will see the cable running back to them. You will see the adjustment also.

I joined the club last year after owning Rangers for 11 years. I can tell you my 6.2 Silverado pulled mine out of the garage and down the driveway with no issue

Actually, you should pull the wheels and look at the brake pad/rotors. At the very least, I would assume you have glazed the pads over. If so, 180 grit sandpaper wrapped around a flat stick will work. Remove the pads and lay the stick flat. Rub the pads back and forth over the sandpaper to break up the glaze. Rinse with Brake Kleen or similar product and reinstall. Good to go.

That’s one reason I ordered my new boat without the parking brake. I never used it and one
time brakes were on for no reason.

I installed a small bolt thru the handle and locked mine from being pulled in a parking lot.! I feared that on day one.!

Been there done that! I also put a bolt through the handle bracket to disable the parking brake function. It will never happen again.

I can also say that my 2018 Silverado 2500HD Duramax pulled it in locked position all the way to Toledo Bend!
