    Falls Lake

How's the fishing on Falls Lake been? What about the water temp., and the spawn? Might try to get down this week, haven't been in about a year. I read about the Shad die off, and figured that would make things better by now.

Water was around 70 about everywhere I went on Friday. Shad kill was over about a month or so ago. Water clarity was fine with the exception of the back of some bigger creeks that drain from residential areas. I was catching small ones on wood in 2’ of water. I’m guessing they are fry guarders. The spawn may be wrapping up. Just a guess.

I went about two weeks ago and caught over 20 fish. A couple of nice ones but most were keepers. Only a few looked like they had spawned. Water was in the low sixties then. I’m guessing the biggest wave has hit the banks by now but probably not all of them. Water clarity was good for Falls. They were in the backs of creeks and coves then.

Basscat Ron fished against us this past Saturday in our small club tournament. My partner and I won it with 15 and change. We had big bass at 6.02 I think it was. In practice Friday we hosted 1 fish each all day long. We was discouraged big time. Sat am we all took off. I looked over my shoulder and seen a major shad spawn happening. It was for a solid hour. There was some BIG bass in there. We didn’t get any though. We through everything that should have worked. Instead of leaving I said let’s go over there and start and go that way. Which we did. I put on a solid white spinner bait and got us a limit in 30 minutes. For the next 2 hours he was catching 14-15” fish at will with Neko rigs and I stayed with the spinner bait. I had all the keepers for the tournament. I did work a 4-5 lber on a bed for about an hour but she just wouldn’t take what I had. I’d go shallow this weekend for sure. Laydowns and rock both held fish. Water was 68 sat for us and it’s warmer now for sure. The spawn is on now. Go getcha some and enjoy the outdoors. Be safe

BassCat Ron can tell more on how his day went. Everyone had a limit. It was just that time.

Thanks. I may have been fishing to deep. I was able to get a 3 pounder yesterday. The FFS has worked on perch, white bass and crappie. I also have caught around 10 catfish. I have been getting crap from the guy I am with over the catfish. Thanks again.

We caught plenty anywhere from 2-10’, mostly on plastics. Probably 15-20 in the boat, but no size. Water was high 60’s, so I would think the shallower you go the better. We fished mostly rock, did catch some of wood. Next time I’m just following Eddie around.

We have been doing a lot better. The fish seem to be shallow. Bass in the 3 pound range have been the biggest. 2 pounds seems common so far. Seem to do best on purple plastics. Still looking for the monster. I know this lake has very. I ha e seen them.
