    GunBroker question

I have sold off a few rifles with local very popular shop, thru GunBroker. Seemed to get a fair price. Local gun shop has always said to not put a starting bid price, do the penny auction start. I am getting ready to part with my Savage model 99 1956 .243. Very desired gun/caliber. I am hesitant to do no minimum. Original family owner, has not been shot since my area went shotgun in 1976 and has less than 30 rounds thru it ever and is top condition. I look around and some of the estimates seem crazy low. Any gun gurus here to suggest a minimum to have GunBroker list on asking amount ? It does have Iron Sighter mounts, no scope; could throw one on I have. Thanks for any value advice , and no I am not selling this myself.

Will your local gun shop sell it on consignment ?
I sold one that way and was very pleased with the results.
    Btw that’s a nice rifle, I have a 99C in a .243

I guess some member thoughtfully PM a warning asking if I had a FFL? I asked a question if someone had idea of value of a gun before I take it to local large well know gun store to put it on GunBroker. I have never sold a gun on my own in my life, and nowadays don’t own but a few and am down sizing even them. Sorry if I set off any crazy flags asking a gun value.

I wouldn't be to scared. You can always bid it up with a freind and only be out service fees as a fall back if it doesn't work out

I did a sold search for you on GB. Prices are all over the map for .243's of that era (two of them sold recently for $600-$650). I'm sure it has to do with the condition and the specific model (C, EG, etc). Some from the 70's sold for $800-$900. A couple sold for over $1000. I think those were model F's.

I have no idea what to suggest for a price. The $600's range sounds low esp. since it's likely in very good-to-excellent condition. Local shop had one in .308 last year. I glanced at it, left, came back the next day and it was sold. I think they had $750 on it but it might have been $800. I'd probably be looking to get $800 or better for yours but that's a guess

Penny bids guarantee more interested bidders and usually will end up going for more than higher starting bid listings.

It will sell for what the second highest person in the pool of bidders is willing to pay. Low starting bid means a larger pool.

I sold my dad’s same year and also a model 99 .243 last year on GB. Great condition, but he had cut 1 1/2” off the barrel. I got $1200 plus for that one, if memory serves.
