    Garmin gpsmap 8622 what gps puck works

    Hi I bought a used 8622 without a gps puck ,what models pucks work, using it on small inland lakes for navionics mapping thank u

    Your choice, but the 24 is more accurate and costs more.

    SteadyCast is not a GPS. If you want a GPS that better than the one in your 8622 you'll want to get the GPS-24xd.
    My wife asks if I'm going to fish every day. I can't fish every day. Some days I might be sick.

    Pretty sure it has the standard 10 Hz built it. It's name is GPSMAP, has built in maps and auto guidance. I don't think the maps and guidance would be of much use withou a gps. Turn it on and see. Go to Charts and if it knows where you are, it has a gps.

    Finnaly got hold of garmin ,no built in gps must use a puck,if I networked 2 gpsmap units,one with built In gps , would the 8622 read gps from other unit

    The 84 series in Aus had a built in GPS receiver. I imagine the same applies to the 86. If you want a relatively cheap upgrade showing true boat direction when stationary or moving the Steadycast is very good. Cheers

    Looking at the specs on the website, it does not list as having internal GPS. In fact if you look at the "In the Box" tab, it shows that it comes with a 24xd antenna. Going back to your first post, i see where you mentioned you got it used so that explains why you are asking about GPS antennas.

    To your other question, yes, if you network it with another unit that has gps, you can get GPS from that unit. Networking will need to be N2K.
