Single ram trim clicking and popping

I have a 2022 Mercury 115 pro XS and the trim unit click and pops while going up and down. It has about 40 hours on it. I have attached a link to YouTube for a video. I don’t see any grease fittings for the ram arm or pin. Any ideas? https://youtube.com/shorts/XOYx1u5clVM?feature=shared

Yours doesn't have the two trim rods with the balls on the end that the guys above are writing about. Yours just has a tilt rod. Google mercury power tilt and trim and then "images", and you can see what they mean. It's hard to tell from the video but looks like the rod could be jumping when the noise is heard. If it is hanging up there it will lead to gauging/scaring and leaks from the scraping. If you want to try and find it yourself, verses taking to the dealer, raise it up and look for scrapes in the paint on the frame to see if it is snagging there. Then I would loosen the bypass screw and lift/lower it by hand instead of by power (may be pictured in your manual). If it still clicks, that may tell you it is not the rod, but the frame or tilt pin. Then raise it up and use the holder/lever to keep it up and get the weight off of it. Then remove the pin at the top and try and find it by inspecting that and lowering and raising the rod by power without any weight on it. If you don't locate it, rub some grease on the pin, put it back together, and try again.

Yea when I searched this problem, I do see other posts about the 2 rams that need to be greased they’re referring to. I swung it by my dealer and he said basically it’s not normal but it is. He said it’s the pin that holds the rod and the only way to grease it is to remove the pin and coat it in grease. Just a crappy design by Mercury so that’s my next step.

Well, the good thing is that you now know the answer.

Digon... If you would, please be sure to take a moment to review the Announcements at the top of the Forum, and be sure to provide the Required Info (serial number) when posting. Thanks!

Make sure that the grease zerk at the FRONT of the engine has been lubricated properly (easily missed behind the steering cylinder).

It was a huge pain to get to with the SeaStar in the way but it’s fully greased and it didn’t make a difference

I have 4 year old 150 in my shop right now that was clicking like that. it was coming from where the ram pivots at the bottom mounting, from the side i pulled the side screws and squirted premium plus oil in there and reinstalled them, noise went away after tilting the motor a couple of times.
    Thank You Leon Pugh

thank you. Any tips on pulling the bottom pin? Like how do I get the pressure off the trim unit? I’ve tilted it all the way up, engaged the lever and tilted the motor down to rest on the lever but there’s still pressure on the entire system

You have to bump trim up or down until the end pin is loose. In some cases it may help to loosen the manual relief screw (no more than 1.5 turns counter-clockwise).

I didn’t think about the relief screw. I’ll try that tomorrow. Thank you
