How many hats/caps have you lost out of the boat?

I’ve been pretty successful at recovering headgear that gets blown off while running across the lake. Most caps float long enough to turn around and locate them. I can remember two of mine that went to a watery grave. One was probably the best cap I’ve ever owned. Don’t remember where I got it. Pretty sure it was a promotional hat I picked up somewhere. Wasn’t even a fishing related company, but that hat was lightweight and fit my big noggin perfectly. Lost it when I forgot to take it off prior to making a run on Lake Eufaula, OK. The thing sank like a rock. Second one was a Tilley LMT6 Airflo that I neglected to secure on a run back to the ramp at dusk. Went looking for it, but it was too dark to locate. There have been one or two passengers that lost hats over the years as well, but I don’t remember details like I do mine.

There has been one that I lost and didn't recover. It was on the back deck when I took off and didn't remember it was back there. Took it off working in the bilge and didn't put it back on.

Had a partner lose his hat while running down the lake. We hit a big wake and when we arrive at the next spot, his hat was not under his butt where he left it.

It’s not the hats that worry me. I have lost two cell phones and no telling how many sunglasses including a Maui Jim and a pair of Serengetis,
As far as hats I have lost more to my dog chewing them up.

2 Fishers of Men flex fit hats given to my son and I at the 2010 national championship at Guntersville. Important in the long run? No. But would have made great momentos of the occasion.

    My share for sure
seems to be less these days. But it would seem any hat that I pay more then a hat should costs
    As a very short life?

Yeah, cell phones and sunglasses don’t float well. I’ve lost two cell phones, but not while running. Just dropped them while fishing. My younger brother did lose a pair of prescription Ray-Bans out of my boat at WOT. He turned to look back at something, and the wind sucked them right off his face.

One, maybe two hats, and two phones.

Never have lost a rod and reel overboard.

There's lots of decaffeinated brands that are just as tasty as the real thing.

1 or 2 over last 45 years of being in boats.

Lost far more rod/reel combo's than hats.

No hats, but a couple cell phones, a perfectly good set of truck keys, a co-angler's tackle bag that he'd moved onto the back deck in advance of a long run at Texoma (still don't know why), and at least 94.7% of my pride through the years.

Only 1 hat that I can remember that didn’t stay floating long enough for me to retrieve it..(chef pass gets about a 6mph current when the tide pulls hard)

Lost a couple pairs of sunglasses, bad habit of having them on my hat when not wearing them…

I have only lost one. Wasn't even driving the boat I was spot locked on a main lake point on a super windy day. Blew right off my head and flew behind the boat. by the time I flipped the boat around and started looking it was slowly drifting down a few feet out of reach. Clear water I watched it sink for like 10 feet.

Only a couple. If I'm driving I can quickly turn around and get it. I remove my hat and secure before taking off, but occasionally I may forget to. The last one I lost, by the time I could get my buddy to stop we had gone too far.

In 45-50 years, probably several. I usually turn around and get them, but a few have been in big swells when I was more worried about getting back than I was about a hat.
