Over the last 45 or so years at Santee I’ve seen as much or more “Viking behavior” and pure stupidity from locals as I’ve seen from tourists.

First you’re totally bent out of shape over the boat wreck at Smith, and put your Boyd hate on display hoping MLF goes under.

Now you’re voicing concerns of rampaging Viking hordes.

Maybe take a break from the internet, and your bodies of water ravaged by Vikings, Huns, and Mongols. Fish a pond or small river, or just take a walk. You might feel better.

That's generally been my experience as well. If it's meat fishermen, it's almost always locals who kill their limit (plus), take 'em home, put 'em in the freezer, repeat. Can't speak to what happens on southern lakes but that's what I see here. I only wish more Soufers would come North and fill their coolers with these damned "calico bass" that they've illegally introduced to half of our lakes and ponds. They suck. Gimme white perch any day of the week over those crappy slabs

Tourists? Isn't the proper term undocumented visitors/fisher-people?
If professionals who's careers depend on catching fish use FFS then that's what I'm using. Might be too simple of a philosophy but makes sense to me.

There are a lot of ridiculous comments on here but the most ridiculous is the one saying I hate MFL and Boyd Duckett. Actually I have to admire what Boyd Duckett has done .
I llike the MLF format. It has come a long way. Do I worry that it will survive ? That is entirely another question . What I don’t love is the blood suckers that will come after them. I have seen it too many times. Go back and read the post . Then come back and show me where I said I hate Boyd Duckett or MLF. As far as my comment on here about beating up on tournament fisherman , it is a fact that is occurring since the tragedy happened. Again go back and read some of the comments under that thread. As far as tournaments I will be fishing one myself in a couple of weeks to help kids with heart conditions.
I absolutely stand by my comments that I welcome people who come down and enjoy Lake Guntersville the correct way. I do not like rude people or rude fishermen whether they are local are from somewhere else. That is the bottom line. If that is a problem you may be the one that needs to take a break from the lake. The suggestion to fish small ponds is spot on.
Now that I have had my say feel free to continue the pile on. It’s like water off a ducks back with me.

I don’t do weekends. Sometimes on Tuesday there are very few boats on the water.

I don’t know why this is a topic, but he is not wrong. Hoards of boats from everywhere show up on G every spring. It’s a public lake. I have heard so many instances, witnessed two personally, where the meat hunters, many from the North, drop 2-3 limits of bass and crappie on ice, every day they are there. Campgrounds are normally the scene of the crime.

What I’ve experienced more, is people “on vacation”. Now, they may just be natural born *******s, but I’ve always assumed their actions stemmed from, we spent $xxx to go to the Big G to catch bass - period. They see a fish caught and they are coming to catch its brother. Damndest, most annoying behavior I’ve ever experienced on the water. I don’t live there and will not fish there unless I absolutely have to.

Just so everyone understands, this is not the norm on other lakes in Alabama. Historically, this is uniquely Guntersville. Like an invasive species you just deal with anytime you fish there.

Meat fisherman are just as much of a sportsman as catch and release folks, and I’d actually argue that they’re more of a traditional sportsman than the latter too. Keeping fish to eat is their right. I see this like the purist fly fisherman who think people who use spinning tackle beneath them, and they shouldn’t even be allowed to enjoy the water if they don’t have the same interests.

In terms of the tourists comment, i do understand and sympathize where the OP is coming from. I don’t fish a lot of the more well known lakes in NY cause of the crowded ramps. I just prefer smaller lakes and ponds where there’s less pressure, less crowds and more peaceful.

The Adirondack towns are being overrun/bought out by tourists from NYC, NJ, CT and PA.. They have every right to move here, but it’s just disheartening to see generational families being pushed out because they can’t afford or compete with the transplants who buy all the properties at exorbitant prices that no one else can afford, to show up for 12 weekends out of the year.

"THINK"??? What do you mean, "think"? We ARE above the losers using spinning tackle and light years above the worm dunkers. And any trout properly caught on a dry fly is worth 3 trout caught by other means (basically poached is what I'm saying).

But just because I'm a purist doesn't mean I can't embrace the latest technology. Space age carbon fiber rods, titanium reels, even FFS for wading. It works awesome and saves me from casting to a lot of unproductive water. I'm currently working on getting a heads-up display so I don't have take my eyes off the fly. The transducer thing was easy, just mounted it on my Willy. Of course, once the Viagra wears off, it becomes a DFS for Downward-Facing Sonar but you can't have everything

You sure sound mad….. just enjoy your day on the water or go home and sit on the couch….

if I see someone running where they shouldn’t be, I’ll flag them down and try to inform them but if they shrug me off or ignore me or tell me to mind my own business, then ok, tear your stuff up…. But I do carry a tow rope if you need me to tow you later, I will..,

Wow. After reading this thread, some here should probably select another hobby as fishing isn’t working for you

You started a thread that is already two pages long and growing which is impressive so take that as a win just don’t get too upset if all the posts aren’t to your liking.

c rig is a good post writer so even if we both got the wrong impression I still had to compliment his BBC Writing Skills.
