2003, Hurricane Isabel. More recent hurricanes have not impacted the albemarle sound much……but the Pamlico Sound got hammered.

I know you're being sarcastic because you never post anything serious on here, but SML is by far the best fishery in the state right now and has been for the past few years. James/Chick held the title for awhile, but not anymore.

Serious cold front and high winds didn't play a factor? Some of you guys need to get out more.

I had an older friend that lived up there. He was a big striper fisherman who only trolled artificial baits. He had a monster he caught from there mounted. Decades ago it was one of the premier smallmouth lakes in the country

There’s still plenty of big smallmouth. And the F1s that were stocked 10 years ago are flourishing. Mid 20 pound bags are the norm to win tournaments now. There was a 36# bag that came out of there last month, and a couple 10 pounders as well.

I appreciate the mention. I’m a washed up old has been now but it’s nice to be remembered. Thank you.

Do we really feel like it showed out that much that people will come flocking? I mean if you threw Welcher out ( yea that shite was special) The rest of the fields weight might be the lowest of the year on tour? It was beautiful place.. would love to fish it, but it didn't stand out so much I would pick it as a destination lake compared to a Guntersville, Fork, Rayburn or one of the great lakes?

I think it put it on the map because people have become aware of what it can be from all the dock talk….pros were absolutely murdering them in practice, the cold front and the wind really sh it the fishing down bad.

Not 100% sure but I believe they are. I know there’s Florida strains in some of the tidal rivers in VA and I’d imagine it’s the same in NC
