The Albemarle sound will be fine. It isn't some little lake that pressure can affect. Most guys don't have the chops to make it out of the mouth of the Pasquotank. It's not the place for weekend warriors

Lord knows my Yankee ass will be down there next spring!
Plugneck hit the nail. Have fished down east since the 80's. Hurricanes and tropical storms ravage that area, and it takes about five years to come back. Multiple storms in multiple years will push the timeframe out. What will happen is someone thinks they can run from the Tank to the Chowan and get stuck because of a normal breeze on any other lake.
I remember practicing for a six man back in 2011, fishing in the Chowan was good as I've ever seen it. Had 28lbs one day in practice, 3-5lb fish were very common. Then we had the hurricane and killed a ton of fish. Its all cyclical down there.
I bet there are more fisherman than normal there today. Did they show exactly where he was fishing?
Hang on. I'll help you in 77 minutes.
As a whole it will not be toast due to its massive size...isolated areas will be gang bang buy every hard stick that watch BASS live and saw the location pin dropped on the map that says fish here to catch big fish.
Ask the people of OH Ive what they think about Youtube letting the cat out of the bag. A few years ago BASS was on my home lake for a college national championship and thank god they scheduled it at the worst time of the year with horrible conditions. If you don't understand the power of live coverage just think of the words KVD said the very first time he saw BASS broadcast a live event..."this will change how the game is played" at the time it may have been interrupted as enthusiasm but now that time has past a lot of people see it as a negative.

It will be fine. Welcher smashed them but it didn’t even take 12lbs/day to make the Day 3 cut. It’s gonna be tougher fishing than most of the weekend warriors are gonna want to deal with.
Hurricane Floyd in 1999 wrecked that place for about 10 years. 40 inches of rain caused a massive fish kill on all those rivers. They took a long time to come back. My PB came from the Chowan a couple of years ago. It was 8.8lbs in June. Post spawn tank.
I don't always find schooling fish but when I do I backlash on the first cast

With all that area, it should be fine, unless a hurricane drops in...
No, it’s not toast. The area around Pasquotank and Elizabeth City got what it wanted. They have nothing but the river, they were after the notoriety. That they received and yes they will be busier around Albermarle Sound now. There was only one 100 plus stringer, and while there were others good, the bite slid off every day.
The NC Coast has all sorts of inlets similar including the Neuse River and New Bern. They will slide up and down the coast with bass fishing events where they can entertain and host them. The area sure will change some with freshwater enthusiasts mixing in.

For those that fish the Tank I would think most people would know where he was along with the others on the river that had cameras. I know I recognized most of the spots where they were and have fished many of them, but not with the same success.
Not worried about the fishery. Barring a major storm it should be fine. Most of the people in town go down to OBX to fish leaving the river to the few bass fisherman and a lot of those come down from VA.

I'll let you know when my friend comes back from there the following week. If he sees this post maybe he'll reply.

Wayyyyy to much water down there for fisherman to be an issue…been fishin the Albemarle Sound area for more than 30 years. As stated above hurricanes are the issue to be worried about.

I never heard of it either but I think it'll be just fine.
It seems to me that the storm surge from hurricanes doesn’t have much effect on those far eastern rivers, like the Tank,Gator and North. The hurricane wind piles up the water in the western end of the sounds, when it recedes it pulls dead water out of the swamps and kills the fish. That high water doesn’t come up out of the ocean,it comes from the eastern part of the sounds. The water in the east end of the sounds can actually be low during a hurricane. A large rain storm like Floyd in 1999 floods the whole sound and can kill the fish. Hurricane Irene in 2011 caused and near total fish kill in the western end of Albemarle sound from a storm surge. It devastated Chowan and Roanoke, there was huge rafts of dead fish piled up. It was sickening and heartbreaking to see. The Hwy 45 bridge across Roanoke has a USGS water monitor on it,it showed oxygen content in the river at 0% for nine days. Everything that couldn’t get out of the water died, except blackfish or bowfins or grinnels, whatever you call them. I never saw a dead one of them.
