There used to be a ETEC owners group web page maybe you can find your answer there.

Not sure why I never bothered to look for an ETEC forum Dave but thank you. I found this post on the subject. My engine is labeled/titled as a 2006 but the S/N references it as a 2005 (second year of the ETEC's) so it fits the description of the earlier oil systems <2007 mentioned in the post. Thank you. .. at least I now know I'm not crazy or losing it

2007 and earlier models injected oil into the fuel. Oil was injected into the intake. New style injectors and oiling system in 2008 oil injected into fuel was no longer used. Instead a rear manifold was added to inject oil directly into cylinder walls. A 200:1 to 400:1 pre-mix can help lubricate the fuel pump and injectors with modern "dry" fuel or ethanol fuel.

My 2012 Optimax has had "Don's Prefered Cocktail" in the gas tank all the time its whole life, part of that mixture is Premium Plus oil in the gas (150:1 ratio) to lubricate the injectors. 87 octane with 10% ethanol for 13 years and no problems. The only overdosing (25 % more additive) I do is with Startron ( label says its ok to overdose) in the gas can for both my snowblower (16 years) and lawn mower (26 years), again no problems.

You wont have to worry if you fill your tank and see how many gallons you put in. Then, add appropriate amount of Stabil etc. It will mix as you tow down the road no problems.

This is a good idea. I don't always top off the tanks so I'm not towing the extra weight.

No worries. At least I cleared the confusion up for my motor and in my head. I kind of like the idea that the injectors are receiving some lubrication without the addition of an additional manifold. Not sure why Evinrude decided to change that by design but it is what it is. Being a 19 year old engine I'm hoping I'm not forced to re-power in the near future. If so, Yamaha SHO flashed to the max baby! <JK> At my age I don't need flash

But according to the flashing people's best salesman you need to flash to keep your boat from being a slow log in the water. Wait, nevermind it's a Ranger
2023 Xpress H18 with 115 SHO that's optioned to fit my wants and pulled by a little Ram.

Never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience. Just smile and walk away.
