    Waypoint Creation Date

    Hey guys,

I am in a situation where I am trying to decipher between waypoints on a lake by the day i was there last year and created one set of waypoints (7/28/23). However, I cant seem to find the creation date of the waypoint anywhere....When I go into more info on the waypoint it has todays date as that is when I imported the waypoints from my SD card...Does it really get rid of the creation date altogether when you export and import?

The creation date and time should be shown with HumminbirdPC.

Just checked a Helix exported waypoint library loaded to HBPC on May 18, 2024 and it has the creation dates and times. Some of the first ones on the list are from 2020, 2006, 2007

Also when viewing the data in a Helix unit's memory, each one selected shows the date and time.

im viewing on Solix. When I select a waypoint and choose more info the date shows today as in when I imported them back into my unit not when they were created

Just checked with a SOLIX G3, in the Nav menu it shows the date and time in the right column for each waypoint when created. If I put the map curser on a waypoint and push the check mark button, select Full Info it shows the date and time when created. Basically, the same thing as the Helix does.
Some of my waypoints were created using number series units.

Follow-up: Exported the Nav Data that the G3 had. I cleared all the GPS data in the memory and copied one of the HBPC files to a memory card and imported those. All of them show today and 7:18:09 PM.

Then I cleared all of those and imported a file that was on a memory card in the unit I use for snapshots. That file was from 2020. Those also show today and 7:28:29 PM

Then I cleared all of those, and imported the data that I started with that showed their original dates and times. Those were also changed to today and 7:37:55 PM

Sooooo, there seems to be a difference how the units handle imported data now than before.

AND a final test, I loaded the new file to HBPC that I exported from the G3 to start with and there are no dates in the date column.

Yeah that’s extremely disappointing that it doesn’t retain the original date. Thanks for all your hard work to confirm

This is from a SOLIX G3 that was networked with the other G3 that I used yesterday to check the date thing.

This is what happened yesterday to the dates after I exported and then imported the same data.

It’s a known bug with the Solix that started with one of the latest updates. I’m 2 updates behind and mine works correctly so it must have been introduced in the update before the latest one. Humminbird is aware of it and it’s supposed to be fixed with the next update.

You are correct. The Solix and Helix handle date and time differently.

The Solix units carry the time out to the thousandths of a second, i.e, hh:mm:ss.sss and Helix only carry it out to the second, i.e., hh:mm:ss If you take a Solix file and open it in HumminbirdPC, it won’t show the date because of the fractions of a second BUT a Solix will recognize dates from a Helix.

If I ever pull up a Solix file in HumminbirdPC, I open it in a programming software first, then I strip off the decimal and the 3 decimal places so that it just has hh:mm:ss HumminbirdPC will then recognize/display the date. After that you can import and export it back out of the Solix and HumminbirdPC will still recognize the date/time. It only adds the Solix format when you actually save a waypoint on the unit itself. Once you get rid of the fractions, you can go back and forth with the file using HumminbirdPC.
    Have a Blessed Day,
    Mike

Just another reason I don't like using Humminbird PC with Solix and Apex. They are "mostly" compatible but it's the "mostly" part that can bite you in the butt.

Humminbird PC didn’t cause this issue, poor programming did.

It's not poor programming. Humminbird PC was not designed for Solix/Apex/Xplore. With those units, use it at your own risk. It's a Helix and "numbered unit" tool.

Well, Humminbird PC has been around for a long time and it's not like Humminbird didn't know they were coming out with new units. Of course they could have updated Humminbird PC to support all their hardware but it seems they chose not to do it. So, poor programming or poor management, either way poor being the optimal word.

A vote for AI! People always make mistakes! We people think something like a 1,000 of a second is not important when reviewing waypoints. Many years down the road it might sink the ship!

Poor programming in the solix software. When the last release came out it had an error that assigns the current date to any imported waypoints. Has nothing to do with HBPC.

I had not checked that lately so I just opened HBPC and did SAVE AS to a waypoint file to load to a memory card. Then put the memory card in a SOLIX that I just did Restore Nav Data Settings to clear the memory. Then I imported that file and all the waypoints have their creation dates. The tracks have today's date and time.
