My German shorthair pointer does that very well…, it is his bed and he’s just lets me use a little spot..
my every night, except it is 3 not 1! and a cat or two at times also

My dog won't get in the bed when I'm there but he will to take a nap during the day or when I'm gone.
Typically afternoon when I eat lunch he will nap in the bed then again that evening after dark. When he hears me turn off tv and can tell I'm going to bed he gets out and goes to his own bed. One evening I was going to wash sheets and he was in the bed I had to push him out. It was one time. After that he won't get in the bed in the evening. He still will in the afternoon or when I'm gone.
