How far would you drive for a used boat?

I drove 9 hrs to get my last boat. Spent the night in a hotel and picked it up the next day and drove back home. It was a better deal than I could get from any dealer around me.

In 2003 I drove from Kansas City to Sam Rayburn to buy a boat from Bob Sealy. It was 14 hours each way. I had told my son I was going to get a two man bass hunter type boat. When I pulled up with the new Triton TR186 my son went crazy. Remember it like it was yesterday. It was the right boat and the right price. I would do it again. The last boat I bought only 2 hours away to Pros Choice Marine in Warsaw, MO. The price was $8k less than anywhere else. In my opinion the best place to buy a boat.

I drove from Gainesville,FL to Milwaukee to get my last one. It was a good decision for me. Left on a Wednesday morning, Looked at the boat Thursday morning, tested it on Lake Michigan , bought it and headed out for Aurora Canvas. Dropped it off Friday morning for a new road cover and picked it up at 5 that afternoon and was back home in Gainesville by noon Saturday.

And the Milwaukee owner drove to Houston to buy it from me. And I drove from Houston to central Missouri to buy it. Great boat, pretty boat - people will drive

Over a 1000 miles to buy a BassCat Cougar that had 28 hours on the motor and had been to the factory for a checkup after I sent a refundable deposit. Worth the long drive!

I am from Southern Ontario and about 10 years ago flew to Texas to check out a boat at a dealership, bought it and had it shipped to Michigan for pickup.

But I only did it because it was at a reputable dealership down there.

Drove 9 hrs. one way, spent the night. Picked the boat up the next day, drove home. Seller was a great guy, discounted for driving, got a great deal IMO.

In Sept I drove 12 hours to buy one from a member here. Looked it over, paid him and drove 12 hours back here with it. No big deal if it's what you want.

However far you drive, be prepared to come home empty if the boat doesn’t meet your expectations or if you are on the fence. I would make sure you had plenty of photos and videos beforehand and I bet it works out for you.

Another thing to mention is to be well educated on your home states requirements for buying out of state. Some states are relaxed, some are very strict with notary requirements, state taxes, DMV and registration requirements, etc.
