Ok, So made it out at a good time…from my house. It’s a little over an hour drive. On my way down I picked out a couple places I wanted to start on. It was going to be the normal commute honey holes…Being this early in the year I figured they could be pretty good and not all beat up yet. I also had it in my head I was going to catch them with a crank bait and jig. At least that’s what I wanted to do. I was on the water by 7am and headed to my starting spot. 12-mile is at full pool if I had to guess maybe 6” low is all? Water is clean. Got to my spot nothing there, moved to my second spot and really worked it over thoroughly. I was not having luck with the crankbait of jig. Way too much slime! Wt was 51* so I did make a cast with the buzz bait and spook just to check but nothing going there. Well on to my next spot. Finally got a 3.75 on the Jerkbait. I stayed on the move because there was a lot of other spots I wanted to make sure and check. I kept moving north and hitting all the rock refs zig zagging my way north. I realized the crank bait was a waste of time so just put the Jerkbait rods in my hand and started get 8–12 nice keeps of each spot. Soon I had a 15lb limit. Finally got to a spot that the jig stared working! Pretty soon I was up to 18lb. Now I was starting to head back to the ramp and stopped at my last spot and got a 5.08 that got me to 19.02. It was super fun and in my opinion I just needed a few more 5lb and I would have been in the mid 20’s!

I don’t want to jinx myself but this was the first time I’ve been at 12-mile and not hit a stump!!
i also used active target a lot to help make the right casts and watched lots of them eat it. Very nice tool to have plus it helped me get through all the stumps Lol. Planning on fishing tomorrow maybe at 2 different lakes. The first lake sucks! Icara! We’ll see what the wind does.

Thanks for the report Redog. Glad to see they were biting for you today, and a five pounder always makes the trip worth it. Keep the reports coming.

On a different note, if Icaria sucks, why bother going there? Just curious. I think I’d want to spend my time at a lake I have more confidence in.

Good morning! So the only reason I go to Icaria is to run my boat at speed. I think all the low speed running carbons up the motor?? The bass fishing isn’t that good there but I have done well on walleye’s and hybrid bass a few times ….

Jerkbait depth, that’s a good question. So I was using 2 mostly (had four rods JB rod rigged lol) one was a lucky craft 90 ish size shallow runner and the other was a 110 +1. I would get a few bites on the top of the rk’s (4ft) then run the deeper one on the edge. Those bites were in 7-10ft most of the time. The front edge of the rocks with the wind on it seemed best. Also the rocks farther north seemed better. Of course that could be just a timing thing to. It started raining mid day so that might have helped.
