    CPAP users, help me out

I've had my machine 11 days and I'm having a heck of a time getting it dialed in! It's ResMed 11. It either drys the hell out of my mouth, or I get a lot of condensation in the hose. Is it normal for the air being supplied to be warm? That makes it practically unusable for me!

I manually dialed back my humidifier to avoid the condensation. I assume it a heated hose.

it’s been a long time so I’ll need to see what I did on mine. There was some cpap user forums that I jumped on for some answers.

I also adjusted the humidifier on mine but it still dries me out...I was told to get a chin strap to help keep my mouth shut..just living with it.

You may need to change mask type.

I don't care for the water or heated hose, so I get a dry mouth. Xylimelts help an awful lot. I read about them here on BBC. They do a great job overcoming the dry mouth.

The cpap heats the water so your moisture is close to your body temperature. Sounds like you are having an issue sleeping with your mouth closed all the time. That can be an issue , due in part to what type mask you have. It takes some getting used to sometimes, but try and work with your dr and see if there is one that will aid you in keeping your mouth closed so all the air is coming from the machine.

I replaced the heated hose on my 11 with a non heated version and it took a couple of nights to get the humidity level adjusted to suit me.

I don't use the humidifier or water with my CPAP. If you keep your mouth closed, like you are supposed to, your mouth will not dry out. I use nose pillows, can't stand a mask.

it's a fine line between humidity control and tube heat temp. as you increase humidity the tube temp usually needs increased to keep the tube dry,, make your adjustments in small increments at a time.. The tube heat is more about keeping the tube dry than warming the air you are breathing... Also,, run your hose from the machine up and over your headboard then drop it down to the mask. If you don't have a headboard just rig somethin up to hang it above your head 12 to 18" or so.. I have a hose hanger mounted to the top of the headboard.. This does 2 things, it helps run most condensation drain back towards the machine and more importantly for me it keeps the hose from wrapping around your head, shoulders and bedding when you roll from side to side etc... Dropping the hose from the top rather than the side was best improvement I made for my CPAP.. You will find the sweet spot if you just keep tweaking your temp and humidity settings. I have the 11 also and my climate and temp settings are on "auto" and it works perfect. The only time I get a dry mouth is if for some reason I breathe a lot through my mouth that night,, a good rule of thumb though is if you increase the humidity the tube heat most times will need increased too..

Have not used water or heat in mine for years. Houston is humid and hot enough. Breathing thru your mouth is why you have dry mouth. No temp or humidity setting will fix that.

Same here. I have been using a CPAP with nasal pillows for 25 years.

I stopped using water in my humidifier years ago, but routing the tubing up and over the headboard was a GameChangerTM when I discovered it “by accident”. It’s the only way to go!

    Hi
My Wifes Dr set hers up and monitors it , and make any adjustments needed , after two years she just had the issue with the dry mouth and told the dr , he make an adjustment and it has been fine.

Also, the equipment provider that you get supplies from can be useful. At least the two different equipment providers I’ve had have been. Mine sends me emails frequently with tips on getting the most out of the therapy. My ResMed 11 also connects to my phone via the MyAir app and Bluetooth. The app has lots of info in it, too.

I was having a lot of condensation issues as well, dropped it down to "4" BUT back up to "5" for a night or two, going back to "4". Had the 10 for about 4 years, went up to the 11 and I'm not impressed.

I turn off the humidifier and have the tank 1/3 full. no heat. works better. Sometimes when your tired you can get dry mouth. I found if I drink a sugar free hydration drink 1 hour before bed it really helps. liquid I V. Good luck. been using mine for 20 years. Have the Res med 11 now. Thanks. BC

I am making appt today to get refresher course on it. Got it last year, changed masks and just could not sleep with it. Coworkers whose opinion I value highly told me to "become friends with it" gonna give it another good try.
