I had laparoscopic surgery to repair an umbilical hernia 18 years ago. Everything went fine and I was ready to go back to work in a week but the company I worked for told me to take a couple of extra weeks off. I had an inguinal hernia repaired 9 years ago and I had a problem getting rid of the gas they used during the laparoscopic surgery. It was very painful to sleep. I couldn't sleep in bed. My best sleep was in a recliner sitting nearly upright and that was still painful. It got better after a couple of days and back to normal after a week. Good luck with yours.

All went well. Went in for surgery at 7:30...out of recovery at 9:30...home by a quarter to 11:00. Feel like I've got a big gas bubble in my gut and woozy from the Oxy, otherwise feel sort of great. It's going to be soup, jello, and chocolate ice cream for a few day while my wife pays back all the TLC I gave her after her back surgery.

This is the first surgery that I've had since 1982 when I had an emergency appendectomy on a Sunday afternoon. It was game 7 of the playoffs and I was into that....the surgeon came in in his Oak Tree golf duds and when I commented about missing the ball game, he replied, "I guess we all had other plans today".

Thanks for all the well wishes.

There's lots of decaffeinated brands that are just as tasty as the real thing.

It didn't occur to me until later that another big advantage to the laparoscopic/robotic surgery is....NO gay dude coming around to shave my "members only" area.

On my first, with my wife sitting there, female nurse asked if I was Manscaped. Told her no and she did her business. Second one they did it once I was knocked out. Same hospital, so I’m guessing word got out about me….they were either laughing or crying, and I don’t want to know….

A small piece of advice: if they use a mesh, it’s a good idea to learn about the possible risks or side effects. According to this law firm, there are some legal aspects to be aware of in case any issues with the mesh arise later on, like infections and mesh failure.

Had it done 20 years ago - no big deal. Just be sure if they give you pain meds like Vicadin, etc. for pain that WILL bind you up that you take the stool softeners they give you and eat A LOT of vegetables. NOT a good thing after hernia surgery....

I wouldn't believe any of these guys here on post surgery nutritional requirements.
Soon after surgery whenever you get hungry, there is no reason you couldn't have some mango habanero buffalo wings and a couple of Budweiser beers.

Your junk ok sooner? I still need a second opinion on mine since the discomfort is still somewhat there over my bladder but original ultrasound showed nothing. Lifting my 63# dog on the scale at the vet triggered some pain because she was modest about her winter weight gain.
2023 Xpress H18 with 115 SHO that's optioned to fit my wants and pulled by a little Ram.

Never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience. Just smile and walk away.
