    First-Time Boat Rigging (Lowrance) – NMEA2000 & Ethernet Layout

    Hey everyone,

First time really posting on here, and I’m hoping this is the right place for this. I’m currently rigging a boat for the first time and would really appreciate a second set of eyes to make sure I’m on the right track. This might be intuitive for some, but since it’s my first time setting up a "Boat Network," I want to confirm that I’m not missing anything.
I’m confident in my power layout, but the NMEA2000 and Ethernet networking is where I could use some guidance, please see the photos.
    Electronics Setup:

    Bow:

    • Lowrance FS12 dedicated to Active Target 2
    • Lowrance PRO 9" for mapping/sonar
    • Lowrance Ghost with 3-in-1 transducer
    • TMC-1 compass

    Console:

    • Lowrance PRO 10" for mapping/sonar
    • Point-1 GPS/heading sensor

    Rear Transducers:

    • Lowrance Active Imaging HD 3-in-1
    • Lowrance In-hull 83/200 kHz

    Questions:

    NMEA2000 & TMC-1 Layout:

    • Does my overall layout look correct? Is there a more efficient or reliable way to set it up?
    • I understand that the power node should ideally be in the center of the network. Is my current placement centered enough?
    • The Ghost runs its heading from the TMC-1 compass. Will having the Point-1 on the same NMEA network cause any conflicts or issues?

    Ethernet and Sonar Layout:

    • Does my overall layout look correct? Is there a more efficient or reliable way to set it up?
    • With my current setup, will I be able to access all transducers (Ghost 3-in-1, rear HD 3-in-1, and in-hull) from both the PRO 10" and PRO 9" units?

    Misc. Question:

    • I've reached out to a bunch of mount companies but due to my console design (2006 Skeeter ZX200) can't effectively mount a graph nicely above the steering wheel. That being said I am planning on mounting the PRO 10" to the right of the console. I have ran RAM mounts in the past but was wondering how the Precision Sonar Lockjaw compares? The mounting face on the boat is at a slight angle—so, is the Lockjaw able to adjust for this? Basically, can the base portion be mounted at an angle while the graph mounting portion is adjusted to remain horizontal? I don't see this adjustability point in the picture online.

Thanks in advance for your time and help!

I can't speak to the Precision Sonar Lockjaw mount, but your NMEA 2000 and Ethernet wiring are perfectly OK.

I prefer to mount the Point-1 as close as possible to the transom mounted transducer, this improves location accuracy of way Points marked while idling around and scanning.
I set the console graph GPS source and heading source to Point-1 but the bow graph GPS source is set to internal while the heading source is set to Point-1.
I prefer to set the NMEA 2000 network up this way so I can easily add components anywhere on the boat by just adding another tee and a short drop cable.

I would run the AT module Ethernet to the 9 HDS instead of the FS. Then connect the 9 to the 12. This way all your shared waypoints will be available to the FS. Simple matter to select the AT image off the 9 to show on the FS. NMEA looks good but preferred location for the Point 1 is at the rear. I agree with Bill. I like the. NMEA network to be infinitely expandable. Point 1 and TMC-1 will not affect each other.

Thank you all for reviewing this. These are some great tips/ ideas and I will definitely implement these. This answers my questions of how to get all 3 units to share waypoint and information.

    I've update the Ethernet layout.
