Classic Fish Transport

Been wondering since fish are transported in livewells around an hour & 1/2 to the weigh-in , are dead fish penalties accessed at ramp or at weigh-in site ? Is it contestants responsibility to plug off livewells to prevent water loss on the road trip ? Plugging overflows & inlets seems like best way to not lose water. Using livewell additives & ice also seems like a no brainer. Does BASS make sure all wells are full of water before boats leave the ramp ? It's just something I've not seen addressed .

I'm sure they don't need any ice right now, but I am curious where the dead fish penalty would be assesed. At the lake, or at the weigh-in?

Dead fish penalties are assessed at take out for sure. I’m betting bass and TX Parks gives them pretty good guidance on keeping fish alive on the drive to the arena based on all their other tournaments in TX and how they stress fish care. They’ve been doing this a long time…

Good question... I never thought about transporting fish from the tournament site to the auditorium for the classic. I wonder whether they adhere to special classic rules for fish transport during the event

Yeah these fish get taken care of better than any tournament fish out there.

I’m talking about tournaments we all fish. Not MLF that is unrealistic format for any circuit other than the top two leagues.

If i remember right, at the ramp they weigh the fish and help them get the livewells ready for the road.

Is it different water in the livewells or the lake water? If lake water, where is that dumped afterwords?

Can’t speak for Texas but here in MN the DNR won’t allow lake water to be transported. The city of International Falls hosts an offsite Rainy Lake weigh in. They pump out our live wells then fill them with “safe” water. It takes less than a minute to do the water swap.

They check them at the ramp but don't weigh them. Most of them die. No way those fish are stressed for 6 to 12 hours without dying
