    Helix 12 Navigation question?

IMG_6255.jpegIMG_6252.jpegAfter hooking my Helix 12 gn4 back up, I now have a yellow line projecting from the boat icon in addition to course projection line. I can’t find what this is in the manual. Tried turning several things off in chart and navigation menu but couldn’t get it off. Can someone tell me what this is and how to turn it off? I do not have a separate heading sensor puck.

Could it be orange in color? That might be the heading line. It is in other models.

The Yellow line is the heading overlay. The green line is the COG overlay.

Can you turn the heading overlay off?

You can turn either or both off. How you do it will depend on what mapping card you are using. It will be in the Chart Overlay section of the settings.

Toby, You may want to try it each way. 2 lines is distracting but the difference is the yellow line always points the direction the boat is pointing. The green one (course) is only accurate when you are moving over 4.5 MPH. If you are casting and going slower it either will be totally wrong or correct occasionally. The part about course I do not like is it jumps around haphazardly. If you only use it over 4.5 mph it's fine. Try them both and see what you want.

The yellow line doesn’t point the direction the boat is pointing. I don’t have a separate heading sensor on my boat. I can’t really seem to find a reason for the direction it points. I also checked for a heading sensor overlay setting, but couldn’t. I guess I am going to call Humminbird tomorrow.

I don’t know either, orange was the heading on stuff I had(not Helix though). If you don’t have a heading sensor on something It can’t be heading. Your description does not sound like a heading line. I think the help desk might be the ticket. Good luck and tell us what you found out. Bob

Figured out how to get the yellow line off. I had to select the minn kota heading sensor as my gps source on the console unit, then turn the heading line off in settings. Then I could select the internal gps on the console unit as gps source with no yellow line. I still don’t know why it was trying to use the minn kota when I had the humminbird unit selected as gps source.

It may have found it automatically after an update or something. You still have to use the yellow lines while driving though.
