So, its a 20ft 7in Lynx. Looks like maybe more room up front and some Skeeter style storage. It looks good. It will sell. I just dont see the need for that boat in the product line unless they are dropping the old Lynx.

Nice seeing some thought going into front tackle storage. If they would prioritize rear compartment storage over the huge triangular live wells they would win over some new customers.

They dropped the Lynx a year or two ago

Anyone really thinking Basscat was going sub 20 foot budget boat was kidding themselves. They make their money on premium boats. Rick has said it so many times…the loaded out pro style boat is what sells in their lineup.
The smaller boats don't sell as well because they haven't updated the P2 since 2007 other than changes to the consoles and the Classic lacks some of the features folks have come to expect in a Cat. It is in desperate need of an update to revitalize the sales. The trend to go bigger and bigger is alive an well, but there are a lot of us that would love an updated 19 footer from Bass Cat.

I get it…but how much would guys pay for a 19 foot STS…if that boat starts to get close to Carcal/Puma prices, heads will explode. Most would just buy the 20 foot STS no?

I have to agree - the lack of interest in their smaller boats is somewhat self-inflicted. The Sabre design was 30+ years old, the Margay was a total dud, and even the legendary Pantera II is an old design lacking many of the things people look for today. The Pantera Classic is a nice boat, but the deck only comes in white and it does lack some of the high-end features that people expect from Bass Cat. There are still folks who want a smaller boat / 200 HP / single-axle trailer that fits their garage and their budget. If BC was really interested in that market they would upgrade the Pantera Classic a little or at least offer the upgrades. It comes down to a business decision for the manufacturer - the coast of raw materials, labor, etc. is probably not much less to build an 18 - 19' boat than it is for a 20 - 21' boat and they can make more on selling a bigger rig. The same reason car manufacturers would rather sell you an SUV than a 4-door sedan.

BINGO - I would bet the Cost of Goods to fully rig a 19' 2" Pantera II STS (Which does not exist) or a 20"2" Caracal STS are the same. Well the PII would be cheaper by the diffence in cost of a 250 HP vs 200 HP and then subtract a foot of fiberglass and a foot of steel on the trailer, everything else is the same.

However people would expect the fully loaded PII to sell for $50-60K and that is just not realistic anymore. It is a shame.

100%. The I'm guessing the build cost is very close for a 19 vs a 20 footer, yet people would want it to be much cheaper.

Would people choose the 86K 19' STS, or take the loaded 80K cougar 20 footer?

Kind of like when people complain that they can't get a regular cab, stick shift bare bones new pickup. The reason you don't see them is because the people clamoring for them wouldn't buy them new anyhow.

“If they would…I would” comments are abundant around here. That is code for “Tire Kicker”.

They should at least update the top cap on the P2. The only reason I was wishing it would be STS is because they have increased all their 20'4" boats to 20'7" when they did that. I would like to see the P2 go from 19'1" to 19'4" and have two 22-gallon fuel tanks in the back corners and keep the under-the-seat storage. Current capacity is 33 gallons, and you have to add a 10-gallon tank under the seats to get to 43 gallons. When you get on some really long lakes, I would want to have more than 33 gallons running a 200 or 225.

This is exactly what I want from Basscat. Give the P2 a wider bow or allow the Classic to be customized with a non-white cap and either would be my next boat.

I would take a hard look at the Cougar SP package.

I went from a PII to a Puma FTD to a Caracal STS

    Loved all 3.

You will appreciate the larger deck on the Cougar SP Package (FTD) hull.

Probably couldn’t build a PII equivalent equipped for less money.

You've got me wondering. You are saying the PII has a max fuel capacity of 43 gal. with 3 tanks. Would like to know how come I have a PIII that has 2 26 gal tanks in the rear. My boat is a 2002 P III. Wondering if the P III is a little longer than the P II Or maybe a little wider.
