Long story short, I took my 2000 TR21 to the shop to have the water pump replaced on my 225HP OX66. Simple task, I would think. Picked up the boat, Saturday, took it to the lake on Tuesday and immediately upon starting, I thought it was idling rough. It probably sat idling 3 to 5 min while the truck was parked. I took off, it bogged a second, then caught, got on plane, then lost power and shut down all within a quarter mile. Well having had this motor blow #2 cylinder in 2013, 3 months after purchasing the boat, (it was rebuilt by Hydro-tec and has been babied and well maintained). I used the trolling motor and went straight back to the dock. (my first thoughts were something might be wrong when the lower unit was reinstalled after the water pump was replaced). I started the boat, the motor sounded strong and I drove it on the tailer and took it straight to the shop, a well known Marina and dealer. So, yesterday afternoon I get a phone call that the number 6 cylinder only has 30lbs of pressure, all the rest are 105. So they tell me the motor is shot.
My questions:
1. Is it possible just to have that cylinder repaired?
2. Is my only option buying another $8000 powerhead?
3. Being the TR21 is 25 years old, (great condition) I really don't feel justified buying a new 25K SHO. especially since I am 71.
4. How do you find a used 4 stroke and know its ok?
5. Anyone know a good Yamaha mechanic in the Athens, GA area? I don't
6, Should I cut my losses and just sell?
